I spent over an hour prepping for the next NYB block – and that was just getting the pattern ready – I haven’t gotten to the fabric yet. I went though my box of pattern pieces printed out and sure enough I was missing some – some are used for more than one block and you don’t know it until you decide what block you are making because of the way the pattern is written. So I was printing out more, drawing on my seam allowance, cutting and gluing pieces together – one arc took four pieces . This block will go below the one I just finished. Believe it or not this one should go together rather easily after the fabric is picked out. The shapes are some of the easiest to flip and sew. But it is working with long pieces and trying to make sure you don’t rip the paper as you go this way and that with the machine.
I got some of the hexies out on the board for the Noriko’s Star quilt and I will just put the rest of the rows out – stacking the pieces on the ends as my board is just not wide enough – if I remember right I just need to lay out two more rows. Linking to Patchwork & Quilts —
Once again I didn’t move quickly on my quilting Thursday night on Arkansas Traveler – my thumb injections are due on Tuesday morning and I can tell! Besides the usual stiffness I have developed a cyst on the palm side of my thumb on the left hand and my rheumatologist old me last month that the ortho doctor would be able to drain it when I get the injections so I hope that is true as my thumb is slightly numb from it – I’m right handed so it isn’t bothering me too much, but being at the base of my thumb it is affecting the whole digit.
Ten days before Christmas and yesterday the Xmas lights were added to the outside by the front door – we decided this year to limit it to that. I couldn’t get the lighting right as it was night when I took the photo but the lantern on the post has star lights that flash on and off at different times. We are certainly slower on Christmas decorating this year! I need to get a new mat for the front door! I just noticed how worn it is LOL

Your next NYB block sure has a lot of pieces in it! I hope thé dr is able to drain the cyst and that the injections help your hands feel better. We are finishing off our decorating today.
That next NYB block doesn’t look any easier then the others, definitely will need lots of piecing. Sorry you are having problems with your hands, that’s such a pain (literally I’m sure). Hope you get your injection soon and can get back to all your normal stitching stuff pain free.
Your little trees are pretty by the front door! We didn’t do much outside lighting this year because the tree that we had (one of those spiral shaped ones with lights going around it) broke as we were getting it out of the box and we didn’t feel like going to buy another one. But just a little bit is still fun to see! The latest NYB looks labor intensive, but hopefully the sewing will go smoothly. Sorry to hear your thumb is bothering you so much – I guess the timing is just right for that injection.
We are slow to decorate this year too. Maybe today! Hope your hands don’t hurt too much this weekend!
We didn’t do any outside lighting again this year. We’ll just enjoy our indoor tree and look at what others have put outside;) That block looks big with all those pieces.
Your outside decorating looks nice. I think a little goes a long way as we get older.
The NYB block looks time consuming with all of those arcs. It is going to be such a pretty quilt.
Sometimes less is better on the decorating! It looks festive to me. That is a lot of pieces in the NYB block. Love your quilting on the AT. I’m starting one in blues right after Christmas! I’m using some fabrics from another kit that I will never make. I can’t wait. Must finish one quilt first though.
Your porch looks pretty! Funny you say that about your rug. Mine looks worse and I notice it in pics too, but I have yet to replace it. That next NYB looks like a doozy!
I really like that lantern by the door! We didn’t decorate outside this year either. We are so far off the road that no one, except our neighbors who sit back like us, would even notice! Have fun with that NYB block. The piecing seems easier than some of the others, at a glance! Have a great week!
That next block is so intricate with so many pieces. I’m glad it will be easier to sew than it looks. I’m sorry your hands are suffering. I know how tough it can be. I hope the ortho fixes everything! Your decorations look nice!
You are my Hero! I tried to make a couple of hot pads, sounded simple enough, and just spent more time ripping then sewing – that’ll teach me to use “one way” fabric on a star pattern. Didn’t want the poor little “nutcrackers” standing on their little heads!
Ouch, I hope that your thumb is going to be better soon. The next NYB block looks great, a lot of pieces in there! Pretty hexies too.
I love your minimal decorations, your front door looks very welcoming.
Thank you for sharing!
