Yesterday it was all about the handwork, no machine (other than the accuquilt that is for cutting). If I ever won the lottery and had the big dream house I would have bins that could be stacked up and on wheels and have the ability to pull out to look for fabric in. I guess actually if I had a big enough room I would have it all on shelves made the right height to not bend over! The way I have it in bins under the tables and under the quilting frame is just plain hard on the body when you have to pull the bins out to find fabric but there is just no other option. Of course I would have 3 design walls too LOL. It would be a quilters dream so I guess I need to dream on. So I was back on the floor again looking for red fabric for the RSC quilts – well one of them that is and pulling fabric and finding so much old stuff that I no longer like that I was seriously thinking of tossing some of the little bits in the trash. But I did find my red to use and got started on the RSC Happy Daze red blocks.
I had the accuquilt out to cut hexies so got the blades needed for this one from the Dresden die while I was at it – the rest of the pieces there is no die for so I use freezer paper templates and cut with a combo of scissors/rotary cutter – all the pressing of those templates will be done today. This quilt takes me a couple days to prep for. Fabric chosen, I will show progress it gets done this week. Linking to Monday Musings — Small Quilts and Doll Quilts today
The black hexies did get cut and started to baste a few but didn’t get to many
While I peddled for exercise I crocheted a little more on the Afghan – this is going slow but because I exercise almost daily I well make a little progress every week. This is called a “spike” stitch and it is on the Attic 24 blog.
Last but not least quilting on Hunter’s Star from Saturday night

Ohhh… I love to dream to of a big quilt- and craftroom to. Glad you found the red fabric.
Hey, but you had an amazing stash and didn’t have to get dressed, get in the car and drive to the fabric store. Lol oh yes, I dream big sometimes too. The first thing I’d do is get a housekeeper, so I could play all day with no guilt!
In my dream studio I’d have the biggest table ever in the center of the room, a big design wall and a big wall to wall closet full of shelves.
Fun to think about your dream studio! I think mine would definitely have more storage – maybe a closet with lots of drawers or shelves. Did you ever find those larger project boxes? I could use a couple of them! Pretty reds for your next Happy Daze block. I think red is really my favorite color to sew with!
Ah yes, my dream studio – it would have lots of light with a wall of windows, built-in shallow shelves to hold my fabric, room enough to hold a longarm with a bigger frame (instead of my little one), a huge cutting table, and a daybed so I can take a nap and the kitties can sleep – lol! My husband talks about his dream space too, so we have decided his “shop” will be inside the house, so won’t have to walk outside when it’s cold, but will be self-contained because of all the dust. Yes we have thought this through thoroughly!
Interesting comments from you and others about their dream quilting space. I have a fairly big space with custom shelves for my fabrics and I still think of things that could be different but won’t ever be! I’m actually pretty happy with what I’ve done with it. Now if I could just get it straightened.
The only thing I need is bigger windows. I have pretty much taken over the entire basement and the lighting is pretty good. I sew in the kitchen with lots of windows in the summer or when I feel the need for a snowy vista in the winter. I would get a housekeeper tho, I hate to vacuum and bathrooms are never fun. Oh , we all have dreams. Happy stitching!
I would love to have everything at eye level too. Getting down the the lower shelves is not easy any more.
I think many of us would need a room the size of a small house to put together our dream studio. Like the reds you picked out for your RSC block. Happy stitching this week.
I have a quite large space but I’d like a larger cutting table with storage, and a stationary design wall instead of this flimsy portable one now. Most of all, I’d like the inspiration and energy to use up a bunch of this fabric in my house!
I had to chuckle about crocheting while on the exercise bike. I used to read while I pedaled. But we gave away our exercise bike when we moved into this house.
Dreaming! Aww, the perfect sewing center. I just want someone to organize and pick up after me. I keep trying to improve my space: getting rid of old, projects, patterns, and fabrics I don’t like either. I have to small grocery bags ready for the quilt show’s rummage room. You really have become quite proficient at the Accuquilt for your different shapes in your quilts.
My dream space would include extra space for inviting quilting friends over for daytime stitching retreats!
Ha! It’s fun to dream about such things. Your afghan is looking good!
Love your dreams! We are combining our apartment (from downsizing our Boston house twice) to our cottage in Maine….not enough space is a real problem. So glad you found the red you were looking for! Is the peddling effective – I hate winter and wonder if it would be a good thing for us to have one.
Your red block will be gorgeous! Like you I would love to have a huge attached to my house where I could have my studio and my longarm in the same room with one, or maybe two?? walls of windows and design walls on the others! I found some fun looking material to make a design wall, now to have a place to put it! LOL And, of course, TONS of storage!! Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!!
