I was working more on the border yesterday than the handwork I said I was going to. But I came up with an idea for it after I realized the other would be too big and went with it. It is working out – the NYB blocks are pieced as you can see for the top border but all the pieces of the border need to be sewed and a few more cut.
Now to decide if all the “fans” will point in the same direction – like this
Or like this – I might check and see if I can get 4 “fans” on the top and 5 or 6 on the sides – I will move things over and experiment today before I start to sew it all together. Linking to Design Wall Monday — Monday Musings — I hoped to get the body of the New York Beauty done for my March One Monthly goal and I did – for April I hope to get the border done.
Quilting on Hunter’s Star from Saturday night and ready to roll it down again last night
The really pretty double ruffled daffodils are blooming – they have such powerful fragrance that depending on allergies I can’t always put them in the house – they are strong
Some of the blueberry bushes are in full bloom and dropping flowers already. This week we are to have three nights at 37, 34, and 35 I sure hope it won’t get colder.
Some of the strawberry beds are really thick – two of them I never go to for thinning them out last fall – 3 beds are thinned out – 2 aren’t. This fall I will thin them out and put some around the blueberry beds and the blackberry bed. The strawberries are full of blossoms and small berries already.

Your ideas for the fan border look great. So much work has gone into that quilt. Pretty ruffled daffodils. Spring has sprung. Wishing you an abundant crop of blueberries and strawberries. So much tastier than store bought.
I like the fan border with the blue background, so pretty. Homegrown are so much tastier compared to store bought. Pretty daffodils, sign of spring.
The NYB border is looking good. That dark blue makes a very nice frame for the rest of the quilt. Hopefully it won’t get too cold at night. Looks like the garden has gotten off to a good start.
That dark blue will make a nice frame for the rest of the quilt. You found a nice compromise for the border blocks.
I like the border! I’m partial to flipping the blocks up and down for the border. It’s yours and it will be beautiful, whatever you decide. Those frilly daffodils are exquisite!
I like the fan border, either way, and especially love the dark blue. Those ruffled daffodils are so pretty, and the strawberry beds are amazing.
I watched Lori Holt’s video yesterday for the Mercantile birthday cake block. I broke down and ordered the individual interfacing sheets, got my fabrics pulled, and had Hubs help me make a circle template out of cardboard. I have a feeling I’ll have to break down and order an acrylic one. Watching the video took the mystery out of the block – it was quite helpful.
Looks like you’re on your way with that border! It will look great either way. Love your pretty daffodils! I didn’t realize they had such a strong fragrance. We got snow overnight – several inches! I saw daffodils blooming at the park near our house yesterday – I wonder how they look this morning.
Given how busy the center is, I like the calming border, and putting the fans either way has possibilities. It will be fun to see what you come up with. Your garden is looking good. My seed starts were a failure, so to the garden center I must go.
Dear Karen,
Strawberries already on the plants, now the weather needs to warm up a bit. Crazy weather everywhere at the moment. Stitching got paused and sewing happened instead. Beautiful work on the frame and New York Beauty.
Karen me encanta el borde que haces. los narcisos precioso.
Buena semana
I’m absolutely wordless! The quilt is so beautiful and you have done it so quicklyQ (guess that’s a lot of words!) Enchanting!
I think the fans turned both directions would only look good if you have an uneven number of blocks on each border. The blue is looking great with the quilt.
The ruffled Daffodils hardly look like Daffodils at all. Some have a strong scent and others hardly any. I know that in Pansies it is the orange ones that have a strong scent.
I love Spring bulbs, yours are so pretty. Great work on starting the border blocks.
The border you have decided is perfect for the quilt!
Both sewing projects are gorgeous. Daffodils are my favorite!
I like both border ideas, especially because of the blue background. Have you thought about putting two NYB quarters together with the curvy side out all the way around? Just a thought. I’m sure it will look great however you arrange them.
Love those daffodils! We got 12″ of snow over the weekend, so I’m hoping the tulips survive.
Wow!! The NYB is stunning! Great border design. I’m eager for some spring flowers here, but our snow yesterday will slow that down I’m sure.
That’s going to be a nice border and will look great hanging over the edge of the bed.
The NYB is just beautiful! Daffs are blooming in gardens all around the neighborhood.
Love the blue for the border. Either way you choose for the direction of the fans will be great. Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!
Love the blue border, Karen! Either way you decide on the direction of the fans will be great! Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!
