I hadn’t mentioned this quilt in awhile as it had been put aside while I was catching up on the applique of the circles for Happy Daze and the Mercantile sew along. The other day I finished thread basting the hexies for the next section I am working on so before I got to any other projects yesterday I decided to get the lay out on my big board so it would be ready for work.
Noriko’s Star is getting big so I needed to lay it out on the quilting frame so I wouldn’t have to work from the floor.
Here is the next section
It is missing a few pieces along the edges as my board isn’t wide enough so I will get these done then I look at the lay out and see what I need along the sides and add it. The row at the top is part way done.
When I got done with that I went ahead and continued work on the top border of the New York Beauty. I showed it the previous day if you need to look back at it – this is after the whole border was put together and pressed. I folded it in half to square the edges up and measure the narrow border that will go on the bottom of it. I hope to get this border in place today and flip the quilt and have the bottom at the top for easy work on it and start making 4 more of the NYB blocks – they will all be the same design making it easy to work – I am very used to this patter now and if I want to stick with it and have time I can make several or more of the blocks in one day.
Quilting on Hunter’s Star from Monday night
And I got started on the purple blocks as well
In the late afternoon I had to go back outside and work for an hour or so getting the frost protecting sheets out again over all the berries which have even more little strawberries on them then they did last week when we had the frost threat – it might be more likely to have happened last night as we are to get to 32 they say for sure and the frost for more than half the state has been issued. So the “ghost garden” is back and I have the hydrangea protected again to. This is the photo from earlier this month. The plants have really been tricked into thinking it was warm enough to grow like they have been. I have not planted anything knowing that it is too early but you can not hold back mother nature can you?

Yes, Noriko is getting big. How exciting! Enjoy your day; hope you get lots of stitching done.
You do so well at making progress on multiple fronts, even with the garden work thrown in. Hopefully, this will the last week of frost warnings, but I guess they can happen into April. You are getting close to being finished with NYB, looking forward to seeing the final quilt top.
It is hard to find a comfortable spot to work on hand projects when they get as big as Noriko’s Star, but it will be a stunning quilt.
Laying Noriko’s Star on the quilting frame so you don’t havr to drag it here and there while working on it looks like a great idea! It’s fun to get a glimpse of it again – such a beautiful design. Glad your border for NYB is moving right along, too. Hope you didn’t get too much of a freeze overnight!
I hope everything survives well in your garden. I wonder if it will mean earlier fruit on the blueberries or if they will follow their normal schedule for ripening. You should have enough strawberries for all summer plus whatever you freeze or make into jam.
Noriko’s Star is so big! I keep thinking about how patiently you make those little hexies, and how pretty they all look together. It only got to 38 here, not as cold as they predicted, and I still haven’t planted my tomatoes. That will get done in the next few days. One already has blooms and a tomato starting, and the pepper plant I bought has a little pea-sized pepper on it. We’ve been feeding the garden area with kitchen compost for months, so it should be nice and ready.
Ooooh, the last border on Noriko’s Star, it looks very big, and pretty!
