A Busy Day

I was gone all afternoon yesterday for a doctor appointment – which in itself doesn’t take long but it is in Little Rock so that tacks another 2 1/2 hours to it.  Just a routine visit and blood work.  I stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home to get the prescriptions that were refilled and pick up pizza for supper.  After supper I was working in the garden a little bit picking blueberries and setting up the water sprinkler for turning on this morning after I get up.

It is amazing how fast it can dry out even with the rain that we have had.  It was good to pick the berries last night though as it was shady then and for the rest of berry/tomato season I will most likely be picking in the evening – just so much easier when it is shady.  I had a total over April/May of 10 gallons of strawberries from my little garden and over 2 quarts of blueberries since June started – from new plants so that is not bad – there are still more berries to ripen but the blueberries will be finished soon. Then it is on to the blackberries and tomatoes.

I totally forgot to take photos of all the tomatoes growing but there are a lot and a little bit of peppers too – I only have one plant and it has gotten quite large – I’ve never had luck with peppers so kind of surprised they are growing – I stuck it in the blueberry bed – I guess it likes the company.

Before I went to Little Rock I got my papers out for the border of NYB and started prep work – I need to glue the largest arcs together before I get started so they will be ready to work on – I’m pretty sure I need 14 of them – 7 for each side.  That is all the further I got though.  I will work on that today.

I got two new cookbooks yesterday – I’m always on the look out for recipes that don’t take an expert and a ton of ingredients – these looked good.  I do find recipes on line too but I am forever forgetting to save them or print them out and never use again.  Nice photos and not extremely hard recipes – I don’t do good at hard I don’t have time for them.

And of course had to stop for some extra large chocolate chip cookies while I was in the city to bring home with me.

How many of my readers have an etsy shop – if you send me the name and address of your etsy shop I plan to make a list of you.  At the end of one of my post weekly I will try to put the list at the bottom of my post to help promote your shop. I will try to keep it to a certain day after I get the list entered.   I know some of you would like to reach more customers – this will just be a thank you to my readers for this.  Nothing expected on my end.   This can be easy on my end to do as I would just save a list and paste it in.  I will start working on the list this weekend so if you want your name and etsy info added let me know only got a couple so far.

Doctors appointments really take a chunk out of your day, don’t they? I don’t have to drive as far, but still…

Having to drive to the bigger city for doctor appointments is definitely not conductive to one’s schedule. Sounds like you made the best of it. Happy stitching today.

I like quick and easy recipes too and taste of home always seem to fit that bill. I used to get Taste of Home and Quick cooking magazines for a few years and then felt like I had enough so I quit but found several recipes that I still use.

Chocolate chip cookies and easy recipes! What a great combination. Your garden has had a very productive year.

Glad to hear your blueberries are doing well! And the tomatoes, too. My tomato plants have lots of blossoms, but no tomatoes yet, but I guess that means we’re on the right track. How many more border blocks do you need for NYB? A new cookbook is always fun! I’m with you – simple and fast are the recipes I look for!

That is a lot of berries you’ve picked! Yay on the pepper plant. I planted one without looking at the label (have I already told you this?) and although they taste great, they are the “snack” size. So the other day I bought a regular bell pepper plant – guess it will be late producing. Looks like fun eating that cookie with the coffee and browsing through new cookbooks!

I like quick n easy recipes, too. I do subscribe to the NY Times cooking newsletter but am generally dismayed by all the unusual ingredients they come up with. Stuff I’ve never heard of – and I have been cooking and eating what I consider somewhat exotic (Indonesian) food all my life.

The border on your star quilt is going to be lovely!

The quilt you are hand quilting is so beautiful as are your stitches. I have not done that in years. They say it is becoming a lost art.
I visited Chris in Canada the other day and she talked about your NYB. I just had to pop in and see it. I made one several years back and thoroughly enjoyed it!

That is a pretty good yield of blueberries for how new your bushes are. It’s a good thing everything doesn’t ripen at once or you would feel more like a farmer than a quilter.
