More Cutting

I really didn’t get done with a lot – I got involved with my Karin Slaughter book and I might have spent more time reading than sewing yesterday.  I need to get a move on cutting Flying Pansies pieces.  I need a heck of a lot more – I might start cutting the white pieces though and matching up sets so I can start sewing on some of them too

More hexies basted and only have three more rows to piece and then put it all together linking to Alycia’s Finished or Not Friday —

More quilting on The Carpenter’s Wheel.  I am getting close to the end of this row.  Its been the same old projects now daily –

Last night I walked carefully down to the garden to check it out and it needed water desperately – the strawberries are drying out and two of the bluebushes are too.  Mike pulled the hose down for me and set it up  – he had rolled it up about a week ago to cut grass and I realized I had not watered it since.   I gave them a good soak last night and I think I will for the next two days again to soak them in good.

For anyone who has ever walked in a walking boot you know how uneven your walk can be if you do not find shoes with a tall heel to match up to the height of the boot.  My left side and hip have really been aching and I resorted to buying a cane for stability and finally found a pair of shoes that have brought my legs about even now – in case you need the info I got Sketchers plain white DeLites Sneakers from Amazon – the heel is a good thick one.  It might still be a tad shorter than the walking boot but it is close.  I hope with the cane that I can work on walking with my back straight to ease out the aches.  I hated to do that as I felt like I would really feel like an old lady to use one but I felt like I needed to – so to make up for that I made sure to buy one with sparkle.  You can find all kinds of them on Amazon.

It doesn’t look sparkly here but it does in person

The shoes (yes I have big feet)  These are a size 9.5 but for a little more room I should have gotten a 10 – hard to know when ordering on line but they aren’t bad – keep that in mind though if you are in need – or order several and send them back – I have been doing that for the past 7 days or so!!  I have ordered more than once and the heels just weren’t tall enough on most of them.

Smart move on the thick shoe and cane. I hope those make life easier while you heal. My back aches and I can’t seem to find a comfortable place to sit these days. I would try anything to fix it!

I’m really enjoying your prep on the pansies – that fabric! Yes the boot does cause uneven walking. LOVE Skechers, and those are really cute. I was so glad to get to wear Skechers after my foot healed from bunion surgery. I had not been able to wear anything but flip-flops and stretchy boots for years. Love the cane!

Flying Pansies is going to be a very fun and bright quilt. So glad you found a solution to managing with the boot. It’s so insane that one part of your body being out of kilter, puts everything out as well. Hopefully you are healing quickly and can be out of the boot soon.

I know you’ve said before that the walking boot puts everything else out of whack. You’d think the doctors would have a solution for that! Glad you found some shoes to help, and that cane is really pretty. Might as well have some bling if you’re going to need one! The triangles for the pansies are really pretty, and would make me want to start sewing!

I hope your new cane and new shoe do the trick. As active as you like to be, this must be especially hard for you. I’ve completed my first week in my post surgical shoe, much easier to deal with than what you are going through.

Your tall sneakers are a good solution! And yes, if you need a cane, of course it should be sparkly. When my mom had her hip replaced last November, I got her a purple sparkly one.

I wear a size 9, sometimes 9.5 depending on the brand. We are stable, down to earth women, who are not easily toppled!
Pansies are looking beautiful already. Sending rain wishes to your garden!

Glad you found a way to ease your pain with the thicker soles and cane. Sending healing wishes your way. 🙂 Somedays, all I want to do is read, too.

I keep a cane in the car for days my hip is giving fits, or for things like quilt shows where I’ll be walking with a lot of stops/starts and turning. At home for garden work I have a walking stick saved from a storm-damaged tree. The cane helps, but I seem to end up with either a back ache or arm ache. I have to wonder if a nicer looking sturdy walking stick might work better for me to for when I’m out and about away from home.
I’m glad you got the strawberries & blueberries a good drink and found shoes that work with the boot.

A few years ago Sketchers started running short and I wear a 10. There is no 10.5 and 11 was too big so I had to switch brands. For years I ordered online and they fit fine. I don’t know why they changed their sizing.

I buy shoes the same way. I often order shoes in 2 sizes and just send back what I don’t want. For sneakers, I try to order from REI so I can just return them to the local store. Glad you found ones that will work!

A cane for balance and sorting out shoes is a smart move, even if it takes a few tries. Catching up on your posts to see Scrappy Crossroads looking fabulous and the fabrics for Flying Pansies – wow! We’re having unseasonably warm/hot windy weather. The poor plants are trying to put on spring growth. Lots and lots of mulch needed.

I have been cutting and trimming blocks, but boy does the accuquilt make me jealous when I am doing what I have to do now. They are not sizes I could cut on that…shucks!

Shoes are the bane of my existence. I just bought new sneakers/walking shoes but they are really bugging my right foot. I like your idea of ordering two sizes…will definitely take that approach! Hope your foot feels better and that the new shoes work out.
