The scrap box of 2.5 inch squares when I got started on Scrappy Crossroads
I think there might just be enough squares left in here for 2 more quilts this size easily!! They never all get used up. There are a lot of light and dark
Two rows left to put together and then the border. Linking to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching and Cynthia’s Quilting is More Fun than Housework and Kate’s Life in Pieces – Frederique’s Patchwork and Quilting
Quilting on The Carpenter’s Wheel from Wednesday and Friday night
More hexies basted.
I cut a few of my flowers from around the garden on Friday night – I’m not down there enough to enjoy them now. I will not be working in the garden until October easily now as I have gotten two new stress fractures in my right foot and I’m in a walking boot once again – a repeat of last year – the same bones even almost the same time of year! No apparent known injury just woke up 2 weeks ago with a sore foot and knew the signs and was able to get the X-ray the other day – stress fractures usually take 10-14 days to show up on X-ray. The 4th and 5th metatarsals- the hazards of Osteoporosis – I do take treatment for this but this is a hazard of being on the drugs that I am on for autoimmune diseases – can’t do without them so maybe the treatment for osteoporosis is at least keeping me from as many fractures as I could have? Steroids are notorious for this even with the bone treatment program that I am on. (Prolia injections every six months). I have been on Prednisone (a steroid) for half my life now – I will be 72 next month. There was no choice but to use this medication for treatment.
My accessory for the next 4-6 weeks – I actually bought a new one as the one from last year was getting a little worn and the velcro not sticking well.
A new book – seeing as I have more sitting time I thought it would be good to look through and practice.
I will probably be able to start cutting Flying Pansies pieces out on Monday. I’m ready to start cutting into this colorful fabric. I will fussy cut what I can I need to read the pattern again and see how many pieces I need to get from each piece – I have 22 fat eighths from the kit, leftover from the circle fabric and there is a border fabric included which might have left over from that too and binding fabric.

So sorry to hear about your fractures. I hope your foot heals quickly. Lots of bright colours in your new pansies quilt. The hexies will soon be ready to sew together. So many interesting variations on crocheted granny squares. Take care.
That’s a shame about the stress fractures, but sounds like you are doing everything you can do to avoid them. I know the boot is no fun, but at least you have a nice pretty new one. 😉
Those flowers look great – ours are all dried up and brown. We’ve had .45 inches of rain for the month of August, and no rain chances in sight until Friday. The larger town 15 miles to our west has had lots of rain, can you believe we are rarely in the path? We have to move – lol!
I found a banana yeast bread recipe on King Arthur that looks similar to yours – is that the recipe you used? I can’t get your bread out of my mind!
Ha! It doesn’t look like you’ve put much of a dent in your box of squares. I’m sorry about your stress fractures. Flying Pansies and the cool granny square book looks like a great distraction.
Aw Karen, I’m sorry about your fractures. At least most of your summer work is done. Sit back and sew! The new book sure has a pretty cover!
I’m sorry to hear you have another fracture. Those steroids are a horrible necessity! I love the fabric for your new project. And I must admit I love a granny square. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Take care.
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about the new stress fractures! That must be frustrating. At least you realized what it probably was and got help right away. Your flowers are really pretty – I love having cut flowers in the house. Scrappy Crossroads is looking great, too! Amazing how we just don’t get rid of those scraps though, no matter what we make. Have fun with your granny square book – those look fun!
Well shoot that is not good news with more fractures. Does your foot swell up much?
I should follow your lead and pick a little bouquet from my garden.
I’m surprised they put those oranges fabrics in your kit. The pattern is so large and changes color drastically from the orange to the background.
I hope your foot heals well.
Golly ! Walking boots are a pain in the “tushy”! M afraid I have some stress fractures too! Doctor appt on Wednesday! We will see! Loving the Scrappy Crossroads withe the black! Striking!
So sorry to hear you are dealing with fractures. It’s a good thing that you have the perfect kinds of hobbies-quilting, reading and yarnwork-to lift your spirits as you heal. The fabrics for your Flying Pansies quilt are delicious, and the granny square book looks interesting. I am not a crocheter, but I love to see granny square afghans and have often been thinking of making a quilt version of the design.
The sewn rows of Scrappy Crossroads look amazing! It’s going to be a finished top very soon! Sorry for your foot, hopefully you still can run the sewing machine. It’s not fun to have stress fractures. Take care.
So sorry to read that you have stress fractures in your foot again. A good excuse to take things easy and rest up more.
You don’t really think about how much you move during the day until you are told not to right? Love your scrappy Crossroads – and the hexie look like a good *Sit* project! Heal fast
No fun about having to be back in the boot. Hopefully that at least cuts back on the pain and doesn’t keep you for stitching. You are almost finished with Carpenter’s Wheel! Hopefully we’ll get more porch sitting weather by the end of the week and you can play with some yarn or hand stitching from that vantage point.
I am so sorry to hear that you have broken your foot again! But I am also inspired by your great attitude. So many medications have bad side effects but, we need them and just have to do the best we can to mitigate the effects. I hope you heal quickly!
