Hexies and NYB

Ready to attach the new section of hexies that was completed yesterday to the big top.

Phot came out a little dark – but I pin the two black pieces on the bottom together to make sure I have it going in the right direction before I sew.  I should get this attached in a couple days and then I will take a photo outside in the light – two more of these sections left to do.

This section was completed on Thursday night for the NYB – these blocs had been about half way done – now on to the border.  Linking to Patchwork and Quilting

Of which was started on Thursday night – so last night I got a start on that side border arc and then the rest of the blue crosshatch.

I don’t care for making bags and things that aren’t quilts.  I wanted a new shoulder tote bag to bring to the quilt shows with me instead of a purse – I still use my walking cane off and on (which folds up) for when my back and hips are bothering me a lot and wanted something large enough that I could put it in it and the other things wallet, keys etc.  I found one on an etsy shop that I liked and it arrived – like this!!  The way it was folded in the mailing bag it was all pressed together so it wasn’t even noticeable until I was opening the zipper to see the inside – poor quality control there.  I got in touch immediately and they said they would get a new bag out to me immediately – which they did and I should get it in a couple days.  They said to toss this one.  Well you know being sewers that is kind of hard to do.

Even though I do not like working on bags I will see if I can get a top stitch all the way around the top of the bag – maybe two rows to make sure it is secure and I can hand it off to one of the girls and keep the new one LOL – I think my sewing machine should be strong enough to handle it and I will look and see if I have a needle good for thicker stuff like denim etc.

The post office seems to be having trouble these days with slow packages – Wanda thought I should have the Kaffe prints that she sent me by now to add to the half hexies on the wall and I did too – but somehow they are still only about 60 miles from her and several states away from me!!  What is with the postal service these days – that makes at least 3 if not 4 packages coming late to Arkansas this past month.  I’ll get back to that quilt when the fabric arrives.

Lots of things on sale once again – kits 30-50% off, charm packages 40-50% off, mini charms 40% off  and if you go look at the sales make sure to check out the closeout sales – most are half price bundles of fabric from last year making room for new lines.

Your projects are really progressing! I am very tempted to start another Hexie project. But my DH reminded me I have quite a lot on the go at the moment. Annoying your bag was delivered damaged. At least they haven’t quibbled about replacing it.

Is that corduroy? It’s neat! Glad the seller is sending you a new bag. My husband was just complaining about the PO this morning, but that has been a common complaint for many years.

I’ve noticed a slow-down on shipping too, and have wondered about the cause. I’m glad the Etsy vendor is taking care of the issue promptly.

That looks like a great bag! Too bad it came like that, though. I hope you can fix it and then have two for the price of one! These days, not sure any federal agencies are going to do their jobs better, the way things are going – hope that fabric shows up soon!

You have one row of white above the left section flowers and two rows above the right section of flowers…. I’m probably missing something… but it will be an epic quilt when it’s finished!!

There’s that big beautiful Noriko’s Star again!! ?????? I like your new bag, and yes, I would try to fix the damaged one, too!

The mail is terrible! I live in jersey, two of my daughters are in WA and OR. It can take 2 weeks for a card to get to them! But if I send a package priority, it gets there in 2-4 days. Makes no sense, and is so frustrating.

I bet it feels great to be ready to attach the big section to the hexie quilt! What material is your new bag, either chenille or furry?

There is a sign on our post office door that says priority and express mail packages can’t be guaranteed to be delivered by estimated dates. What I can’t understand is how they can keep raising prices and giving us less for our money. FedEx and UPS seem to be ramping up their services and it just makes USPS look worse.

Your hexie project is looking good. You’ve definitely been patiently chugging along on all those bits and pieces. I don’t know what is going on with the post office. The person who quilts my projects started using UPS to send the projects back to me because it was cheaper and faster. I finally switched to UPS to send projects too her after the last one took over 2 weeks to get to her. Unfortunately, the current administration favors privatization of everything, so the USPS isn’t likely to get any better any time soon.

The cuts to the Post Office that Trump made his first term make the sorting slower because he eliminated many of the sorting machines in the local Post Offices. Now items get sent to a big sorting city and sometimes they just sit there for a few days or even weeks until they get moved on. Who knows what Trump will do with the PO now, especially since so many of us vote absentee by mail. No doubt he has more plans for disruption. I stand with Ukraine too, what an awful display of bullying from the White House. They are clearly standing with Russia.

Noriko’s Star looks so pretty, I can’t get enough of it! Well done working on NYB too, I love how you quilt each section of the blocks. Beautiful bag too, I’m glad that you figured out how to fix it. Thank you for sharing and linking up!

What a disappointment when you received your new bag, that’s in terrible condition. I’m sure you will inspect the replacement one very carefully.

I am enjoying watching your hexies and NYB move closer to the finish line. Amazing, precise work.

  • TerryK Mar 2, 2025 @ 9:05

Your hexagon project grows more stunning with each post! I applaud you for figuring out a fix for the bag so it could be used.

The postal service is really struggling. I think there are a number of factors from mis-management, to employee issues that can’t be resolved plus the Sure Post feature that dumps packages in local post offices. Most of their budget pays for pensions, not for delivering our mail. I don’t have any answers. I expect it will get worse before it gets better. I just had to pay a $15 late payment on our personal property tax because the check never arrived.

Glad to see your progress on Noriko’s star and NYBeauty. I have had a similar problem with the post office. I had 4 packages take wild trips – they would get to the local distribution center, sit for a few days, then be sent somewhere else (FL, TX, VT and VA) , then come back here. It was the weirdest thing. Hope your things show up soon!
