Instead of sewing I started to clean out a drawer behind the door – I have a table slid in that area that has things stored on a shelf. I need to think of something else to do with that storage area. I have no room to use the table but I hadn’t wanted to get rid of it – so what to do with it. For now it is taking up room that could be used for something else but I have no room for it anywhere. I need to rearrange bins and extra sewing machines to make good use of it. I might concentrate a couple more days on clean up before I start to sew again.
While cleaning out a drawer I tossed a lot of little things away that I knew I wouldn’t use and found a bunch of little notebooks with my info on quilts in them. In one of them I had a listing of quilts made and time spent plus some of the figuring for cost of making. The price on the first one in this notebook was from 1998 was only $78 to make. I have no clue if that included batting and backing – it is not detailed well. I had another one listed from 1999 that said I sold it for $1,000.00 on commission – my share was $600 and I spent $116 to make it. It is nice to run across notes like that. It was 84 x 96 inches. I see another listing for “Mona’s Twins” I had to think about that one and remember that was Melanie’s boss from 2000. I have 80 quilts listed in that book from 1998 to 2010 about a third of them were wall hangings and baby quilts that I sold or were presents. I use to sell a bit of quilts before I stopped and just concentrated on fun and not deadlines and perfection. One day I will need to sit down with these books and see if I can come close to figuring out how many quilts I have made – doubt I wrote the info down on all of them.
Other than cleaning here is what I quilted on Tuesday night – this is taken with the lights out in the morning from the side.
And this one here where I picked up on it last night. I need to go grocery shopping early afternoon with Melanie so not sure what I will get done with today – we will see.

Sounds like a nice trip down memory lane. All my quilt records are on the computer. At some point I was going to make a photo book of all the quilts I’ve made, but I could never figure out a cut off point. Hope you got lots of clean up done and can find a home for the things that don’t fit the space anymore.
It’s always so interesting to come across notes from the past. You made nice money on your quilts, but I get why you sew for enjoyment now. Hope you find a place for your table.
That sounds like fun looking back through your notebook of quilts made! Wish I could sell more quilts. Love seeing the texture on your GT quilt.
Those little notebooks are a treasure! I started quilting about that same time – my oldest son was graduating from high school and I made him a quilt. I’d really have to dig to see if I have records of quilts made between then and when I started blogging. Your hand quilting on NYB looks wonderful!
I’m not good at keeping records of all of the quilts I have made either. My blog as a journal has most of them from 2007 to present and yours probably does too. I was keeping track of price to make them for awhile and now I just estimate.
That’s so fun to find the notebooks with your quilting memories. I cleaned out my bookcases today and caught myself reading through a couple of calendar type journals. It’s amazing how much we can forget. Do you have a photo of the quilt you sold? Loving NYB!
Amazing finding your old notebooks. Those prices from 1998 are so interesting. Putting a price on it all is difficult, with hidden costs like rotary cutter blades, design thoughts, time spent ironing & cutting, using stash bought years earlier, etc. I’ve never ventured down that road LOL!
Like others, I use my blog as a record keeper.
Loving all your progress on quilting NYB quilt.
My goodness, what a quilting history you have, Karen. How wonderful to find that notebook with such interesting details in it. Of course, I’m adoring your beautiful stitching on NYB. Perfection!
