Yesterday I was working on hexies again for Noriko’s Star – it is amazing how many you can get done off and on all day if you sit and listen to a book and just get down to business – I do want to get the first corner done to see how it fits and if I need to make any adjustments. I have about 34 more neutrals to do and then I will start stitching. I do love my papers – they are easy to handle – not too thick and not to light – just right!

My box just about full for the first corner
I picked out fabric for the last star point on Georgetown but that was as far as I got with it
A little further on New York Beauty – I will be done with it tonight!!
I am really not sure when these orange tiger lilies started to grow – they washed in one year in a heavy rain I think (or a bird dropped it) I didn’t plant one seed/bulb in the first years that they were here. They washed in close to where we park the car and the first ones grew in front of the car. I didn’t know what they were the first year as there were not flowers but I left them to grow as I wanted to see. The second year I had flowers. And by the fourth year they had multiplied a lot and got dug up – little bulbs were there and I realized too that the black balls by the leafs are seed pods that turn into bulbs. I dug them up from the driveway area and transplanted to a new area. Year to year I will take some of the seed pods off and by the handful I will start tossing them in areas that could use some more color.
Another area. They are now all along the tree line to the yard and workshop and down by the garden as well and another clump has started on the edge of the woods. I guess one could say they are invasive but they are so pretty I don’t care – where they are all along the front yard they can be mowed down if they get too much in the way. Oh and the purple cone flowers started from two plants that I grew in a pot on the porch one year. We had went to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello one year in the late 80’s and I bought a package of the purple cone flower seeds and some others. I wanted to keep track of where I planted them so started in pots and two survived that summer. I planted them and from those two plants all the rest of these are scattered through out the property too.

My cone flowers won’t bloom for a few weeks, but my Shasta daisies are all about to open – I love the way they look at first. Then they start to droop, so I pick bouquets as often as I can. We had a heat wave (2 days over 90) but now the weather has calmed down to tolerable levels (70s), thank goodness. I haven’t been sewing or reading blogs much these last couple of weeks as Paul’s sister has been staying in my sewing room. I am slowly moving stuff into the basement so I can sew while she’s here.
We are all anxious to see your hexie corner come together! I love those lilies, we used to have those but they have all died off:(
Hooray on NYB!! You are an amazing and persistent quilter. We have an area of the orange flowers in a shaded area of our yard. I just love the color that they give. Stay cool and keep producing hexies—you are so close!!!
That blue hexagon fabric is really neat. Your orange lilies are just beautiful, so are the purple cone flowers. Gives your area that English cottage garden look I love so much. Love the stories about how they each got started.
Hubs found out yesterday he has “beginner” diabetes. He has gained quite a bit of weight the past few years, I suspect that is the cause, but what do I know. Getting him to stop eating so much of things that are bad, which are the things he loves 🙂 is going to be a challenge.
I like your hexie papers, too! Seeing those fun sayings as you work with them would make me smile. Those tiger lilies are gorgeous! I would let them grow, too. Do they just bloom once a year, or do they bloom all summer?
I like the orange Tiger Lilies anywhere they come up too. I do move a few of them that can’t stay where they are but most can just be anywhere in the back garden.
We used to have wild full gardens. So many different varieties and colors all grown together. It made for an easy color selection for quilts. I like the hexie saying “scraps don’t have to match”. NYB almost done! Woohoo!!
