More work on the hexies, I am determined to get this first corner done so I can see if I need to make any adjustments. I was listening to an audio book again right now – I got it from Kindle Unlimited and it is number 3 of a series – lucky for me it came in both versions on the kindle and audio. It is called “Hidden in Smoke” by Lee Goldberg. I had not heard of this author before but when I saw in came in audio also I thought to try the series.
Anyhow I got more done on the hexies, after the blue flower there is another row or two and then a green flower and the rest is white and black border.
I thought I would lay it on the floor to get an idea of how it was working out and it looks ok. Remember I said I was cutting off several black hexies at the top to form a square off shape when I get up to the point – that is how the original is and I thought it looked just fine and it will fit my quilting frame that way (I hope) The last rows will only have only a couple hexies in them as it gets skinnier and skinnier.
I enlarge the corner so you can see where it will be cut off – some of you might not like it but that is how I am doing it I sewed a straight line where it will be cut straight. I don’t know if you can see the white thread line? – it will cut off at least one white hexie as well possible 2. When you do hexies and end up cutting a straight edge to the border you sew (I do it this way) twice around with the sewing machine to give you a secure edge that should take care of all the hand sewing so it doesn’t come apart – I’ve done it that was before and it worked out find and nothing came undone.
Quilting on The Rose Garden from Sunday night
This much on this area done since I rolled it down – it is going pretty easily
I had mentioned seeing a Road Runner yesterday and we all think of the same cartoon remembering “Wylie Coyote” beep, beep. Some didn’t realize Arkansas had them – not all of Arkansas is in the habit zone but enough of it that we see them – not often but a couple times a summer at least. They can run fast (for those not in the states Arkansas is on the eastern side of the gray area) . Here is a link to some information on them. All About Birds

I can’t get over how long and hard you’ve worked on the hexie quilt. It is going to be amazing, a masterpiece!
I’ve never seen a road runner, not even driving in Arizona. Of course, I wasn’t there long. I have seen plenty of pheasants, though, and even hit one on the interstate once. I felt bad!
Oh, Karen, your hexie quilt is beautiful! Road Runners are a favorite of mine, and we see them occasionally. I wish they came around more often because they always make me smile.
I don’t mind if you cut off hexies – lol – you are the design queen as far as I’m concerned. 🙂 I just asked Hubby and no, we have not seen a roadrunner in any of the places we have lived, either in Oklahoma or Texas. Strange huh?
That habitat map for the roadrunner is interesting! I had never looked that up before, and didn’t realize they go so far east. Noriko’s Star is going to be beautiful! Do you have an idea of the finished size now?
Both quilts look so wonderful. Cutting off the hexies will make life so much easier for you.
I had no idea that there are roadrunners in California too!

It’s your project, so you can do whatever works for you and since you have done it before successfully why not?. We have seen several roadrunners in AZ.
Making the quilt fit your frame is pretty important. The part you have done looks great next to the quilt.
I think I saw a Road Runner on one of our trips to NM to visit relatives. That was back in the late 1970s and up to early 1990s.
Oh, those corners are going to look great!
It looks like you pretty much nailed the layout for that corner. I like your version better than the original, it’s a lot less busy and carries the theme into those corners.
I love seeing how these corners are going to fit. It will be spectacular. I missed the Wiley Coyote reference but I have to laugh, I have a friend on the island name Wiley, and of course, I think of Wiley Coyote often when I hear her chosen name!
