Flannel- A Step Back

After making the flannel house yesterday I decided I did not like it – the colors just weren’t right.  I have enough of the flannel – enough to do it over again and so that is what I will do.  Although I thought I followed the cutting directions correctly some of the pieces seem to be a bit off also.  I am not always a fan of redoing a whole section but I think I will be happier with it different.  I will probably start to redo that today first by picking out colors again.  I followed the color scheme pretty much from the photo but it seems to colorless to me and the door stands out too much being red compared to light beige of the house – possibly standing out so much because it tall and narrow.

I did get another row of hexies sewed to the corner and another row basted and stitched in the evening.

And a little more quilting done on The Rose Garden

So not as much progress yesterday as I had hoped for but it isn’t a race and I want to be happy with the Xmas quilt as I am thinking of possibly using it as a wall quilt some years.

I was at our local quilt shop last week and saw the Santa quilt hanging there. The house’s color is a bit too light for my taste, too, but the pattern shows it somewhat light. You’re smart to make it a bit darker. Otherwise, the trees may overpower it. And if it bothers you now, it will keep bothering you!

I’m about to start a tree skirt using the Bentley’s Snowflake fabrics. I made several items out of it last year, and, when a friend who’s into VT history (Bentley lived here) asked me for a tree skirt, I thought this would work well. It will be challenging going in the round, but I’m hoping the end result will be nice.

I’m taking notes as you make Silent Night. My pattern should arrive this week, but I don’t have any flannel yet. I can’t wait to get it and start planning!

I’m glad you have enough fabric to remake this section to something you like better! That’s what’s most important in this hobby – making quilts you’re happy with and want to share with other people, too. I hope you get it to where you’re happy with the colors!

I think it is a good idea to put your own touch on the pattern, color changes or whatever. You will like it so much better that way.

I’m working on the Silent Night pattern, too, but I’m using the cotton fabric. I’m making the house a little darker with some contrast. I do have flesh colored fabric for Santa’s face and I will give him eyes….don’t like a face without eyes.
Karen, hope you are getting stronger every day.

As annoying as it can be, it’s always better to redo it. When I was younger, I used to just leave things like that due to the amount of time and effort – and I was always disappointed.

If it bothers you, it’s always best to redo it, even if it seems like a lot of work. You will be so glad you did. You’ve been doing pretty well at keeping all your projects moving along.
