Noriko’s Star

Off and on yesterday I was mainly working on the hexies.  I did not sit at the sewing machine and the 3rd corner is done and ready to attach to the main body of the quilt.  After I worked some on it Friday night I was mainly just left with this much to do.

And it got done

I attached it and here is the 3rd corner

I brought it and the big top to the quilting room so I could lay it out and pin it in the right area so I wouldn’t make any mistakes in getting started.  Linking to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching – and Kate’s Life in Pieces

I pin the first hexie securely and it is ready for stitching over the next couple days.  I will lay it out on the deck when it gets done.  Shouldn’t take more than a couple days.

Only a small amount of hand quilting was done on Saturday night

I went grocery shopping and I managed to sit by the flower bed down at the garden to star pulling weeds for about 30 minutes and try to get this garden back in shape – it has not been touched in almost 3 months.  One side is about one third done – I have some pruning to do too.

And this is what it looked like before – this is the side I will try to put in 30 minutes at least today.

Another side is this – yes you can even see any flowers on this side – it had 4-5 rose bushes which did not do well last year and did worse this year with no attention – I will look them over but I have a feeling the rose bushes will be dug out and replaced with perennials of some sort.  Roses just take so much effort and I admit I will not be working on the garden so hard in the future.

I had completely forgotten that I left 2 tomato plants in the garden that looked like they might survive and notice one skinny plant has some blossoms on it and one tomato growing and yes it is surrounded by weeds.  Mike said he will get in here with the weed eater to clear the pathways and then help rebuild the garden – we will see how quickly that gets done – I think it will move slowly.

Connecting Threads is having free shipping this weekend if anyone is interested in that news.

Did they tell you how long it will take to fully recover from your surgery? That corner of Noriko’s star sure came together quickly. We just got back from a three week vacation. My gardens are needing some attention too. Take care.

You got a lot of gardening done! Funny how those tomatoes hang on. Hubss cleared out most of my garden but the last tomato plant was completely entangled with morning glories, which began to bloom big time after it cooled off. So he left that one and it is blooming again. We will leave all of it until the first freeze.
So that is the last corner of Noriko’s Star?
Btw I still haven’t quite got the first tree top done right on Silent Night and finally remembered I have a Tri-Recs 60° ruler, so I will give that a try today in cutting. Good thing I love the look of this pattern so much or I would have given up. 😉

Just one corner left! You’ve really been moving along with Noriko’s Star. I need to get out in our garden and remove some small trees that have taken root in the plants. It is hard to do yard work with aching backs and in my case knees.

That is exciting – getting the third corner completed! Glad you were able to get outside and work in the garden some, too. I have a place that needs some work, too, and I keep putting it off! There was some ground cover there that has died out and needs to be pulled out. How fun to find a few tomatoes! Have a great Sunday, Karen!

Oh that will feel so good to get the 3rd corner all attached to the big top!

It’s amazing how those hexes just keep growing! Like those weeds LOL.

3 corners done! It is looking good.
That is why I don’t have roses, too much work. I much prefer the perennials that take care of themselves.
I wondered if the tomato plants survived after you cut them back.

Isn’t it exciting to be so close to a finish? I’m going to implement your idea of using shelf liner to hold the pieces of projects! Thank you!
The quilt is so pretty! Such a work of art.
I enjoy viewing the results of hand quilting. Yours is lovely.
This year our gardens were neglected, I’m hopeful for next year.

I have many places that need weeding in my yard. Still waiting for it to cool down a bit first. NS is looking great.

I’m getting the champagne ready down here to soon celebrate the finish of Noriko’s Star. Not long to go now. Oh my, she’s a beauty! As for the garden, weeds are a beast, aren’t they?

Wow, the third corner is ready to attach! Hooray! Noriko’s star is so gorgeous!
