Another Tree Done

I was able to sit longer at the sewing machine yesterday and I got another tree done for Silent Night.  This one done in blue.  I left the bottom strip off on that one as it connects to the one underneath it – if I need to fudge it a little bit by adding a quarter inch or something it will be easier to measure when I’m ready for it.

This is what I mean if you look at the photo you can see how the layout is.  I am still kind of surprised that there is no border around this quilt – just my personal opinion but I think for this one without a border it looks unfinished.

I did get started on that last corner for Noriko’s Star and I am so used to making these hexies that they are moving along smoothly

The Rose Garden is coming up to the border now and that goes much faster than the star areas.

It was very nice outside yesterday until the middle of the afternoon and I was outside reading for awhile on the porch and saw this nice “fence lizard” sitting so still – there was also a common blue lizard (a common five line skink they can be blue or copper color) in the opposite direction but just as I took the photo it had darted off and wasn’t in range – I thought I would be lucky to get two different kinds in the same shot – this variety blends into the dirty planking so well – I never did get around to power washing off these boards this year – maybe this fall before it gets cold.  Lizards are very common here and harmless.

I like your blues. It’s going to be so pretty. I finally got the first top tree section done last night and will finish one tree today – can’t wait – it has been a long and torturous journey. 😉 Here’s the thing – I would never have known about or tried this pattern if I hadn’t seen it here and been inspired to try it. So I ended up trying something new, and I really am enjoying it, in spite of the hiccups in getting started!
So glad you were able to sit longer at the sewing machine, it is so good to see progress in healing. Your lizards look pretty big. The only kind I’ve seen around here are little chameleons.

Your newest tree is pretty in those blues – it must be a blue spruce! I can see what you mean about adding a border, especially with all those seams that go to the edge. Glad you got outside, too. Those lizards must be enjoying the sun on your porch!

Great idea to put that blue tree in there. The perfect tone of blue.

Yeah you’re gonna need a border. At our other house, we had small salamanders usually hiding under rocks. We also had a lot of snakes. Mostly garter but the odd agressive one. We also had a great snake hunter dog who dispatched them quickly when he saw them. Now we have here raccoons and black bears.

I think the quilt needs a small border of the background color to cap off the tops and bottoms of the trees. Or binding in the light color would do the same thing.
It’s nice weather here too, low 80s for a couple days before the near 90 weather on the weekend. We have low humidity too which feels good.

We have lots of lizards here too. I really enjoy seeing the Anoles which turn bright green when on foliage. Our weather has also been really nice. We need rain badly, but the slightly lower temps and humidity are nice.

I am liking those trees more and more. They will make a really cute quilt. I think a border of some sort would make it stand out more.

I love the palette of fabrics you chose for the Silent Night. The blue tree is a nice addition.

Silent Night is looking good so far. I agree about the border. Guess I would add one or maybe even two so that the tops of the trees don’t get cut off by binding.

I’ve never lived with lizards – not sure I’d like them around, whether harmless or not.

Silent Night is a very pretty pattern, and I like your version. I’m so excited to see Noriko’s Star finished! That’s a cute little fella visiting you on your porch!

The blue tree turned out nicely. I have a hard time not adding a border to a quilt, I always feel like the center needs a frame. It’s nice in the mornings and evenings, but mid day is still on the warm side at moment.

I had to go back and catch up on the Christmas quilt. It’s looking good! I agree with you about the border. The design seems kind of unfinished without one.

I love seeing the little lizards. We had skinks in NC. They move fast. I never did get a good picture of one.
