I guess for Jack’s Chain quilt you would refer to the “blocks” as “rings” because of the shape? I have the first one on the wall while I look through fabric to see which green color to add to it – all the white is the same piece it is a very light beige maybe cream? Up close there is a little swirl of a slightly dark beige in it but you need to look closely. These will measure 12 inches or maybe 11.5 when the seams are all joined.
The Rose Garden left end was started on Wednesday night – these are the only two quilts I am working on right now I’m not sure when I will start the next – just a very short break before I start the next which will most likely be the one I showed – which will probably have another name then 54-40 I don’t find that name attractive.
I didn’t work on the garden yesterday – even though the weather was nice my back really needs one or two days off – I push myself too much as when I was working three days in a row I felt ok – of course it would catch up to me – one would think I would learn. So most of the day I was reading and doing laundry. At times laying on the couch the heating pad at my lower back. I did walk around the yard several times taking photos of the fall leaves that are finally turning.
Here is the Sassafras tree – still small overall but considering it just started to grow less than 10 years ago from a washed in – what? seedling, I don’t know if they have nuts when they mature I will need to look that up. It is probably 10 feet+ now – I’m so glad I let it live when I first found it growing.
The dogwood in the distance a kind of red/orange looking – and another tree out there that lost it’s leafs super early and is a bare tall tree already.
Why do some mums part like this I wonder – I have several that looked like they collapse outward all in a circle – this is the end of the flower bed that I never got around to weeding when I switched over to the strawberry beds instead.
The last of the zinnias – I cut some a couple days ago along with a pink rose to have in the house.
And the last of the red roses for now – there are still buds so some might still survive but on Sunday and Monday night it is to be in the high 20’s so who can tell, sometimes if the frost doesn’t hit them they continue to Thanksgiving and occasionally Christmas depending on the weather.

50% off quilt kits at the Green Fairy this week – I just noticed it today I don’t know how long it goes.

Those greens look pretty. I forgot, will it be a scrappy, all-color quilt, or just greens? My mums used to do the same thing when I had some in south Texas. I’m debating what to do with the one I bought and have out front in a pot. I was thinking about planting it in the fading veggie garden, but not sure it isn’t too late since it is supposed to freeze in a few days. I dreamed about having roses again last night. I sure love yours.
Oh, I have made a couple of Jack’s Chain quilts. I just love them! I used the instructions at Quilters Cache. Now I sort of feel like making another!
Pretty garden photos. Maybe your mums need to be divided?
I have wondered what the meaning of the name “54-40 or Fight” for that quilt block is, too. It wouldn’t be my favorite name for a quilt either! Your sassafras tree is such a pretty gold – I have been loving seeing the fall color when everyone shows it. Our trees have just about lost all their leaves now.
Pretty block, Karen. Is it going to be a scrappy quilt (RSC)? 54-40, strange name, I wouldn’t have used that name either.
As Cathy suggests; maybe you should try to divide your mums?
Your sassafras tree is growing in a lovely shape. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a sassafras tree, at least not knowingly.
Jack’s Chain Ring looks so pretty! I’d say the Sassafras tree is doing very well since if was started from a seed. Some of my mums did that splaying out as well through the years. No idea why.
