Not a lot of sewing got done once again – I need to get myself organized once again. The binding will get sewed onto The Rose Garden one of these days! One Jigsaw block got done. Soon I will get all the units that I have made over to the design wall and pin in place to make sure it all fits together and start sewing them together. I am working on my third package of paper pieces and I have one more package to go. Some of these need to be put together though so I can take a photo of them to go by and start stitching and then make some more.
And I have quilting on Noriko’s Star from Tuesday night.
I am only quilting for about 30-45 minutes in the evening lately. I seem to keep getting to a late start at the frame lately and not sitting as long.
Yesterday we decided it was time to restock the freezer and pantry. I always like to do this before winter hits – even though it is just two of us it is nice to know that if power goes out from a winter storm or that snow/ice hits we don’t need to try to get to a store to get food. I had defrosted our small chest freezer last week and decided to get it about half way full. Now I just need to get an extra bag of flour and sugar to keep in a plastic container until it is needed. I don’t get those at Sam’s as it is way to large of an amount for the two of us. Speaking of Sam’s I wonder for those of you that have been to both Costco and Sam’s which do you prefer – is there something better at one than the other. I have not been to a Costco but last year there was one that opened in Little Rock but I haven’t been in it yet. I don’t want to pay for a membership at both.
Countdown to Christmas is beginning and I haven’t gotten my tree up – this weekend will be it – should be clear and in the low 50’s can get things into the house without rain or being too cold.

Smart time to restock! Do you have a generator? We had one a few years ago at another house, and it was quite handy, and we miss having one now.
We like Costco for their paper goods – their Kirkland brand of paper towels and tissue are just as good as name brands. And we like their “Artisan” Romaine lettuce, but they don’t always stock it. What we don’t like is that they do not have the “Scan & Go” app that Sam’s Club has. We use that at Sam’s and never have to stand in line at checkout. Costco is always more crowded and the checkout lines usually backed up, although most of them do have self-checkout stations. We buy our chips, pecans, Kinder seasonings, Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, butter, frozen chicken tenders, whole roasted chicken, and ciabatta rolls at Sam’s. We prefer Sam’s overall (plus, it is closer to us) and won’t renew our Costco membership next year.
That is a pretty red in your jigsaw block – I like the little plus signs in it! We had a membership at Sam’s many years ago, but switched to Costco when they built one here. Like Linda, we like the Kirkland (store-brand) variety of lots of things, and we buy all our paper goods there. I also get my glasses there – they have good prices for frames and lenses. Our Costco can be very crowded, but the lines seem to move pretty fast through the checkout. I think you can go into a Costco without a membership just to check it out, but not sure you would be able to buy anything.
Costco best find: rotisserie chickens are huge and low priced-their standard is must be at least 3# and are $4.99 still! I also buy my organic chicken breasts and thighs there for grilling.
Organic veggies price can’t be beat: cauliflower, broccoli, carrots
Organic laundry soap Ecos is a bargain too.
Frozen: organic corn and peas, Pacific Salmon, shrimp.
I find better buys on T Paper at our local Kroger sales so I stock up there.
Many carts leave the store filled with T paper, paper towels and bottled water. We don’t use the 2nd/3rd.
If you have a friend with a membership, tag along once and take a gander at the products you do use. Only that will tell you if it is better for you.
Sounds like a great plan to get all stocked up and ready for winter. Then you can get that binding on and stitch all day!!!
I think I like sams better – I don’t know why, but I feel like I know where I am going when I am in there haha
Even though my local family owned grocery store is only 7 blocks from me, I still like to know I have a lot of ingredients in my house in frigid weather.
A Costco just opened 10 miles from here and my son has a membership there. He said the layout was similar to Sam’s Club so it was easy to shop. I think they each have their specials that are only theirs and you would have to decide which was most important to you if you want only one membership.
Wise to stock up before the weather gets bad. My plan is to clean out the fridge and freezer next Monday so I can figure out what we need to restock on I’ve spent the morning communicating with family about the holiday. I’m on the same schedule as you, tree goes up this weekend.
I prefer Costco as I’m not a Walmart fan. I think Costco seems more upscale. But like anything, you have to watch prices. Don’t know about Sam’s but Costco is always packed. Rotisserie chicken is still cheap. But and freeze the meat. Boil the carcass down for stock. Kirkland brand is usually very high quality, as far as food stuff.
We prefer Costco too, for all the reasons stated above but also their employees are paid a living wage with benefits and treated better than Walmart employees. Their lines go fast and they don’t have the shop and scan but pay employees to do that instead of setting up a machine to do it. We also love the $1.50 hotdog lunch!
I desperately need to defrost our chest freezer! I just ordered a bunch of my gluten free flours while they were in sale. I should be good through winter and have plenty to take on vacation in January. I went to a Sam’s a couple of years ago. It’s the one my brother likes best. Costco carries more of the products that I can eat but I consider them to really be about the same. I’m just much more brand specific on what I can eat and Costco was a better fit. But I think they are best knows for the quality of their meats.
