Jack’s Chain & Learn From Mistakes

Well I finished the block I started the other day for Jack’s Chain but now that it is done I don’t think I will use it.  When finished and on the wall it is much lighter than I thought it was for some reason.  The yellow I used is brighter than it looked.

It really stands out on the wall – but as you can see you can’t see the chain stand out because of it.   The placement is correct it is just that the nine patch really needs to be darker – I had the thought of picking it apart and making new nine patch blocks for it – I think it would be easier to just redo it with a darker block — live and learn!!  (and that is why none of these are sewed in rows yet)

I was going through blues to add in as I go to the right side soon.  Quite a lot of them but while going through fabric I find I am very low on red batiks, purple, pink etc.  I will probably be looking at some bundles soon although I hadn’t meant to get more. (sometimes you just have to go against your oath to be good and use what you have lol)

Noriko’s Star -I got a lot done Sunday night- I was very involved in the last shows of the series Homeland – if you have not seen it I have been watching it on Netflix – 8 seasons I think it was 12 shows a season – yes to bad words and a little nudity but if you love spy/cia type shows you won’t want to miss it.  Claire Dane’s stars and you either despise her character, feel sorry for her, admire her whatever but she leaves an impression on you for sure and same with Mandy Pitinkin. (there is violence of course it goes with what all has been going on in the Middle East for years of war)

and this part and then it was rolled down.

That is too bad about the Jack’s Chain block! I thought it would be a good one, but when you show it with the others I can see why not. Maybe it will fit somewhere else eventually? Those blues are going to be pretty! We did watch Homeland, and I thought it was an interesting show. We stopped getting Netflix for awhile, but we got it back again, so there are lots of shows to catch up on. I really liked The Lincoln Lawyer! Have you watched The Diplomat? I think that’s next on my list.

I see what you mean after looking at the yellow on the design wall and agree with you.

I agree with your perceptions of the Jack’s Chain and the bright yellow. You could make other light ones and then have a wash of rainbow color /gradations across the quilt. Love seeing your progress on the hand quilting. That is something I really don’t have the interest in doing, so I am totally in awe. You are so amazing, consistent, and prolific!

I can help you out with some of your missing colors of batik. Just let me know how big of a piece you need to get all of the pieces out of it. Red, purple, and pink are ones I have a lot of.

I see what you mean about the bright yellow and I agree with you to remake it. Maybe save this one, just in case… I had to purchase a bundle of white recently. I had only three different whites left, and I like to have a variety. I felt bad when I placed the order, but I had to! LOL

Your view of the new yellow Jack’s Chain block seems right to me – a little too bright. But hang onto it as you may find you have worked your way to that value eventually. And if not, it would make a nice place mat… or not! I have been hoarding cut offs to make HSTs and am thinking now of throwing them all away. Many are pieces cut off from Bonnie Hunter mystery quilts, and I just can’t get motivated to use them. I guess I’m in a New Year’s clutter reducing mode!

Who would have thought the chain could disappear? I like the way the elongated crosses in the hexies makes diamonds.

Wow on the yellow – that is a great example of how important fabric selection is to some patterns. Lol on breaking your oath! We watched Homeland back when it first aired. I loved Claire Danes in it and Hubs couldn’t stand her and can’t stand her to this day – lol!

Trying to get the color right can be tough when doing a color wash. Sometimes you have to add a little to use a lot.

I’m way behind on blog reading so you may have already considered this. I’m wondering of that block might work one row down and to the left.
