I was outside a bit as the weather drew me outside to look at plants again but I did manage to get a purple block done – it was a very easy block to do – The Churn Dash and I use pretty purples for it. I am working on the applique but here it is in process. Linking to Frederique’s Patchwork and Quilting in France – go see what everyoen is working on
Noriko’s Star quilting from Thursday night
And that was it for sewing. Is anyone doing the sew along from the Fat Quarter Shop called the Socialites 3 – this is the 3rd year for it. It looks like one block at a time and you follow along on their blog page the Jolly Jabber. One block a week and you pick the size the block size patterns are available in 3 different sizes. No fee but you get the free pdf of instructions and patterns from their web site. Sounds perfect for scraps. I just wondered if anyone else was doing it. They also have a Facebook group for people to chat and I think post their photos. I don’t know what the quilt looks like in advance it is a sampler.
I’m kind of just going for easy this year I think. I don’t feel like complicated right now – spring/summer season is coming up and I will be weeding the garden, tending strawberries and tomatoes. Just won’t be sitting in the sewing room a lot I bet.
In the gardens I found 8 of my rose bushes have survived by the fenced in garden. They are on the outside edges and one of the climbers of red roses is getting new leaf’s on it and climbing really well – I never pruned it last year. As it was twisted around the wires and doing well.
I cleared out some of the pine needle mulch that protected the strawberries all winter but forgot to take photos. They are doing well, I need to do more work on them today – little at a time – I’m trying to find a balance and quit before my back aches I have a feeling it will be challenging this year. The blueberry bushes are not big and if they don’t do well this year they might be ripped out – but budding is started – just not a lot of branches on the bushes.
And another variety of daffodil – this one is much bigger than some of the others. I hope to be redoing the blueberry beds by late summer so all of the bulbs well be coming out in this area and planted outside the fenced garden. It was never intended to have so many bulb plants in
Here is a link to the Mediterranean Bells that a lot of those bulbs are. It is hard to see the inside of the flower though in full bloom as they droop over like a bell. A lot of green in that bed is from the there is a huge amount of plants coming up – I started with about 3-6 bulbs I believe and I don’t know how many bulbs are in here now – seeds drop as I learned and more grew – the bulbs are small but you get 2-6 or more bells of flowers on them.

I am doing the Sewtialites 3 sampler. I cut the second block today. Blocks are designed so that you make 3, 6,9 inch finished. One of the overview pdfs gives an idea of the setting if you do their setting. I am doing mine in red, white & blue scraps but others are using a favorite fabric line.

I like the purples! I thought about the doing Sewcialites 3, but decided I had better just stick with what I am doing. I started two BOM’s last year that didn’t get finished, so I will continue to work on those as time permits. I have quilted some of the previous Sewcialites tops for clients, and they were very pretty!
Your spring flowers are really pretty. Not much coming up here just yet. But I bet that changes after this week. The purple Mercantile block turned out really pretty. Happy stitching this weekend.
Your purple block is really pretty! I clicked over and downloaded the Sewcialites info just out of curiosity. Those are pretty blocks and an interesting final layout. I don’t need to start anything new right now, but will enjoy following along with your progress, if you do. Sounds like it is gardening season for you!
Sounds like you have a spring plan in place that you will enjoy. I am thinking I should have brought along patriotic projects with it being a very special year it might be a good seller, but who knows! I’ll focus on it in early May.
That is a pretty purple block.
Your roses must like that location and that is a convenient place for the climbers.
I’m already thinking about cleaning up my front flower beds, digging up and moving around some plants that are already there. It will be at least 2 months before it’s time to do it here in the north.
Your purple block is beautiful, I love these pretty colors and the round final shape. Your flowers are lovely, Spring is coming! Thank you for sharing and linking up.
Sewcialites sounds like a fun way to have another little project. I am stuck on wanting to organize but haven’t been able to…so I think tomorrow is looking promising for that. Love seeing all the garden joy…we may get a nice warm spell next week, and clear out this snow cover (although a little more tonight). So fun to see Noriko’s Star past the center!
