After wandering around a bit outside I got to work on various quilts besides things around the house.
Honey, Honey The dark blue top row still needs some work – the bottom of it and light blue square next to it are not attached, I figured I would try to finish that last night and get Jigsaw Puzzle out to work on a unit of that one.
The General – I made a six inch block of the same pattern as the nine inch block I showed previous day. The pattern is the same but with color in different areas it looks like a different block – I wish I had used the darker color though where the lighter color is. This is another of those blocks that looks better when you stand further away from it to see the design – that is why I say I should have used different colors – it is hard to do though with the French General fabric that I have. I have a lot more light colors than dark.
I laid all the blocks out that I am done with on a background fabric and spread them out a little
And Noriko’s Star from Sunday night
I think today I will work on another Mercantile block – only 6 more needed before I put these blocks together and then do the border. Looking at the border it doesn’t look real hard. I think I need another pink one I only have one of that color. I also have one black and one brown. I’m trying for at least 2 of each color and some I have 3 of. The border will be various colors – here is a photo of the full quilt – I have not looked at her instructions for it – that was not in the print out but in the blog instructions.

Your Honey Honey blocks are so fun together! Are you just going to keep building it out from this as the center? I like that small General block, too – in the photo I see contrast between the two prints. That is a neat border on the Mercantile quilt! I’ve been seeing those “house” style blocks on other projects and I think they make a good border.
Ooooh, those blue honeycombs are so pretty! Yes, I think you should make another pink mercantile block. You can never have too much pink, in my opinion. That’s interesting that the border instructions aren’t included in the mercantile pattern print-out.
Even though you’re working in the yard, you are still getting a lot done! Noriko’s Star quilting is getting so close to being done!
It will be interesting to see what layout you do in the end with The General since you will be using different size blocks.
The French General fabrics are pretty, I love a soft red.
Pink is a good choice for another Mercantile block. I have seen some pretty quilts online made in pink, apricot, and orange. I have been collecting a group of fabrics to try that combination.
I love that French General fabric – the reds are so subtle. And I enjoy making quilts with differently sized blocks. They’re quite the challenge. I have been searching for the RSC color for April – do you know what it will be? I’d like to get a jump on the month.
Those French General fabrics are so pretty. It’s amazing how light and dark placement affects a block. I look forward to seeing your next Merc block.
Hubs had a doctor appointment the heart hospital in Plano yesterday. I picked up a ruler I had purchased at 123Stitch, which is in Lewisville and only 10 miles from the heart hospital. Did you know it is a warehouse with order pickup only? I thought I was going to look around – lol!
Are your tomatoes still out of the ground? I’d love to plant mine, but I’ll wait till after the supposed rain this week.
The border on Mercantile is really interesting and I love your French General blocks. I need to spend some time outside this week and transplant some cuttings I rooted. We may have a chance of some rain in a few days.
