Yesterday did not go as planned at all. I was going to spend the afternoon working on the Mercantile block and I didn’t get into the sewing room until close to 7PM. Melanie had contacted me early and said they would be able to stop by in the afternoon and visit and they stayed all afternoon – the sewing never got done. I don’t know what I will get done with today as I have a dental cleaning and will need to run by the store to pick up a few things when done. I did get some hand work done though in between walks outside looking at things and reorganizing their stuff in our storage area so they could put some more stuff in it while they are waiting for an apartment.
I picked strawberries again yesterday morning and have several quarts now in the freezer, we have eaten a lot of them, a bag to Melanie and strawberry shortcake again. I think what is left in the refrigerator will go into a freezer bag and have 3 quarts frozen now. I have now picked a total of 2 gallons from my little patch. I hadn’t made any cake so the little grocery store cakes was the kind used. I don’t really care for them all that much and usually make the cake. Also in the garden I am trying to get one little area ready to plant some seeds. I sent for an A frame trellis that is only about 5 feet long and a spread of 3 or 4 feet? and will plant a little bit of cucumbers and cantaloupe. And along one bed of tomatoes I will try out carrot which are supposed to be a good companion plant. I have a package of bush green bean seeds also and I will try to find a spot here and there to plant them around the blueberry bushes or something wherever I find room. I will work on that this week.
I worked on Honey, Honey while we visited in between them organizing their stuff. For the top row I need to add two small squares and the start putting in place the final 3 on that top row. Then I will work on one side left or right and add six units.
I did finish to the end of this area on Noriko’s Star on Sunday night and got it rolled down to work on last night.
I won’t be able to reach it all comfortably for the width of what is left – and will need to roll it down one more time after this but there is no complicated design in the rest of it now mainly just follow the lines so the rest of this should go quickly than it has at times.

Your strawberries look really good. Sounds like you had a good visit with Melanie and family. Hopefully you’ll have some time for stitching today.
I’m glad you got to visit with family—and the four-legged visitor is an extra bonus! I like those little grocery store shortcakes. They are so easy and not terribly sweet. It makes an easy and popular dessert when I have to take something to church and don’t have time to bake.
Life does get in the way of quilting sometimes! Hopefully it was a good visit with Melanie and everyone enjoyed the strawberry shortcake. Your fresh strawberries were probably the star of the show, even if you didn’t have the cake you really wanted. I think it’s amazing that you have rolled NS down to the last section to quilt – that will be a finish to celebrate!
Yay for seeing the end of the hexie quilt! Honey sure has grown since I last looked at it.
I bet Melanie enjoyed the strawberries and cake and the visit with you. Their cute dog looks comfy. Are they having any problems finding an apartment that accepts pets? Two gallons is quite the harvest from your little patch! It’s drizzly and cool here, only supposed to get to 60° today.
I will only resort to the grocery store shortcake occasionally too. My mother always made the type with Bisquick so I’m not used to a sweet cake with the strawberries.
Glad you had a nice visit with Melanie yesterday. Fresh berries are always yummy. Do you ever make jam with them?
That is quite an harvest. Beautiful vibrant colors too. Your visitor looks very comfortable. I like the multi-color quilting on Noriko’s Star. You are moving along so fast with quilting it.

Your strawberry dessert looks so yummy. We have two local growers close by, strawberry season is delicious!
Two gallons of strawberries so far is impressive! I’m hoping I get enough black berries to make Bob a cobbler this year. That’s one of his favorites.
You are getting quite the bounty of strawberries this year! I can’t believe that Noriko’s Star is almost done. Amazing!
