I continue to work on Honey, Honey while I sit and take breaks from things during the day and I like how this EPP quilt top is coming along. It is easy to do and 5 pieces to a block – I will link this project to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching today when I get on the computer. Also linking to Kate’s Life in Pieces.
I was pressing fabric to cut for the border on Mercantile Sampler and since last years back surgery I find most of the time I need to sit to press on the big board where there is more room. The fold up tall chair though is uncomfortable and I need to find something different, I got this one cheap and you can feel it!
These are the stacks ready to arrange – I have about 5 in each group there so you really don’t see all the colors but there are about4-5 in each color group.
I had plenty left over so I folded the short end in and then rolled it up so maybe it won’t get all the fold lines back in. Plenty left for another quilt project before little pieces get put in the scrap boxes – these were fat quarters.
Today in between working on the garden, Honey, Honey and whatever shows up I need to press these whites that I chose for the smaller pieces of the border and get them cut – they will be 2.5 inch pieces.
I didn’t think to take a photo before I rolled the quilt down but I was working on the far end and got this part done. And some before that but not much. Broken Star Log Cabin.
After I rolled that section down I got this part too, I didn’t get done with all that much but it was a start. My lines can be a mess at times but it gets me going in the right direction.
We have had quite a few rainy days and the weeds in the garden sure have taken off. I got a little weeding done and Mike helped a little bit but was mainly sticking with working on where he is going to make garden pathways in between beds to keep the weeds at bay. I showed him what all was growing so he wouldn’t pull out some vegetables he has never really helped with the garden but I appreciate the new found interest. And yes those are short rows of bush green beans – don’t pull them out!! LOL “those are green beans!” yes!! I have a lot of bell pepper plants planted but I rarely have luck with them getting more than a couple peppers so I am really hoping for luck this year on them. I well need to reorganize the pantry to make room for Marina Sauce once again and I got a slightly larger crock pot for making it in this year as the old smaller one was about ready to give it up – you really had to work at getting it to turn on. Now to remember how to use the small pressure canner I got a couple years ago – I did stick the instruction booklet in it so that will help. I didn’t use it last year as I had such a poor crop.
Seeing as I’m doing the link up today to Kathy’s Slow Sunday stitching and Kate’s Life In Pieces wanted to share the finish of Noriko’s Star to the people who check in once a week on Sunday and might not scroll back to see. Posted all the stats a couple days ago for those that want to take a look.

GREEN FAIRY is having a 50% off sale on some Riley Blake fabric and Moda – time to get it for sure at half price – anything from charm squares to fat quarter bundles and there are some yardage available as well.

I have a Koala chair in my sewing room that you can raise and lower, it’s very comfortable for me. But they are pricey! I bought one for my computer room too. Green peppers haven’t done a lot for me the last couple years so I didn’t plant any this year. NS looks so pretty draped over your porch railing.
I forget to comment on how much I like Honey Honey! Your Merc border fabrics are very pretty.
Haha on having to remind Mike about weeds vs veggies. I pulled all of Mom’s tomato plants when I was 10 in my eagerness to weed. I still almost cry when I think about it – she was so disappointed but never made me feel badly about it.
I actually have a pepper I could pick, but I’m waiting for it to turn red. My tomato plants are a jungle right now, and the zinnias and weeds are growing wild! I have some green bean plants – still small – and a couple of small watermelon plants. Let’s just say it will be a big mess if everything decides to grow in that small space!
Honey Honey does look like a really enjoyable project to work on! It’s fun for us to see it grow when you share it in photos. That’s a lot of pressing and cutting – I would need to do it in small batches with something else in between. Those pieces are going to make a pretty border! I haven’t tried to grow bell peppers in a long time, but Mike has four different kinds of peppers growing. He likes the spicy ones!
Great finish on Noriko’s Star!!
I should plant a yellow pepper as I really like them. I’m hoping the two tomato plants will do well this year.
Noriko’s Star is lovely!
I don’t do well with bell peppers either. By the time any are large enough to pick, it’s even chances they’ll get frosted. Jalapeno peppers seem to do better, which sounds odd being in Iowa.
Some ironing boards have several locking positions so maybe you could lower it to use with your sewing chair. I don’t know if that gives you enough legroom under the board though.
Many years ago I didn’t know which plants were weeds either. I didn’t get into serious perennial gardening until I was in my mid 50s and in my late 60s with tomatoes. I’m glad Mike is taking an interest in the garden area this year.
I’m sorry your back causes problems when you press. Pressing fabrics helped my back when it was being quite literally a pain. Hope you’ve got the pretty blue skies we do today. No wind and lots of sunshine, it’s a nice Sunday. It’s nice to see the photo of Noriko’s Star. Now that you aren’t working on it, it won’t show up so much.
I like those Lori Holt fabrics you picked out for the border—such pretty colors! And you still have plenty left for a future project, so that is a bonus. We have gotten quite a bit of rain. It was welcome, but the weeds are taking off in all the beds I had almost finished cleaning out.
Noriko’s Star is sublime! Amazing she is now finished in all her glory. I am in awe! You make me giddy reading about all your stitching projects on the go. =) It’s nice to read you are in the garden working, tidying up. Sadly, weeds always grow quicker than the plants. It sounds as if Mike is getting to know what’s what and what’s not. Enjoy your day
Norika Star is beautiful. The amount of effort that went into it is well worth the end results. I need to read some more of your posts to see your progress on other projects. No veggie garden for us. I’m hoping to get a few flowering plants so I can bring the flowers in the house. Can you tell I’m not much of a gardener? Have a great week.
Noriko’s Star is fabulous! Congratulations on creating this amazing quilt top! Enjoy your stitching this week!
