Wow it didn’t want to rain for ages and we are in a drought and now we are getting rain almost every day. Yesterday it was off and on all day. We decided it was time restock some things so drove over to the city that has a Sam’s 45 minutes from us so we were out part of the day and I didn’t get much sewing done. When we got home I was going to check the garden and see how flooding it had after it had been raining off and on since the night before but just as I was going to go out the rain would start heavy for 5 minutes then quit again. I finally went out at 7PM to see what was happening there and there was more standing water than there had been Thursday morning. There were no tomato plants tipped over so that was good but the green beans, cucumbers and zucchini were all in standing water. Hopefully it will start to dry out fast. The weathermen say we are still in a drought but it is heading in the right direction. One of the water systems in a town some miles from us is 10 feet below the level it should be for irrigation season for the farmers which starts soon I believe that area has cotton and rice so they need their water.
The crinium lilies are blooming – each stalk will have about 8-10 lilies on them and each plant gets about 2 stalks and later will get more after these die. I probably have about 14 plants the bulbs can get giant size and you can break them up and divide – the bulbs look like Amaryllis bulbs but much larger but you put the whole bulb in the soil and cover up. My late girlfriend gave me about 5 or 6 bulbs I think, years ago – over 20 and I’ve only divided them once. One day they need to be dug up again. Sometimes you will see a big patch though that has never been dug up – you can tell by how large the size is around the circumference – there is one that I go past now and then that is about 5 feet in a circle – heaven knows how many bulbs are in it once it would be broken up.
Another Honey, Honey block, lately I’ve been doing one each evening while the news is on.

And these tomatoes are the Better Boy I believe – I mostly have Roma but I do have about 4 Better Boys or another variety close to the same name but it escapes me at the moment.
I hope to get some work done on The Mercantile Sampler border today, I’ve been moving slower on sewing then I used to when I would sit for hours sewing – I just don’t do that anymore I have to keep getting up and stretch even with the new chair – but it is good to get up and stretch! Seeing as it is too wet to work in the yard for a couple days I should get more work done on this.

You have something blooming at all times now. It is fun to see the ones I don’t grow. I don’t have any tomatoes on my plants yet since they went into the ground a few days later than usual and then we had 3 or 4 days of cooler weather.
It would have been nice to spread out your rain over a couple weeks. I’m hoping for a random storm to pop up since they aren’t predicting rain here for another week.
The amount of rain you’ve been getting sounds amazing! I hope your veggies in the garden aren’t bothered by the standing water. Looks like you could have tomatoes ripening before you know it. Mine don’t even have blossoms yet, but the pepper plants do. I always like seeing your Honey Honey blocks – they look enjoyable to make!
Those lilies are beautiful! I am jealous that you have tomatoes already!
Those are pretty lilies. Sounds like it would be a lot of work to go in and break up those bulbs. Glad you are getting much needed rain but too bad it has to come all at once. We don’t have any in the forecast till next week. Seems it is all staying in Oklahoma moving east to you, or it is in our Panhandle and moves into Oklahoma.
I’m enjoying see your log cabins as you quilt them.
That is a great photo of your tomatoes! They look like a good size. I tied my tomato vines up out of the way this morning. Did I tell you I weeded yesterday? It was a job and I’m stiff today – lol!
Lovely lilies in your garden. Steady progress on your projects. All that rain should help a bit with ground water levels.
The lilies are pretty! It seems late for them to bloom, but what do I know? We are getting more rain than usual for this time of year, but there isn’t any in the weekend forecast, so possibly sometime next week. I don’t mind because it keeps the temperatures down, but the farmers are needing to get into the fields and it’s been too muddy, so that is a problem. It will be wonderful to have fresh tomatoes! Your other variety may be early girl. Those are the two I used to plant.
Those lilies must be really special to you, a lovely memory of your late girlfriend who gifted the bulbs to you.
Now that I can eat tomatoes again I am praying for all of my gardening friends here to have very successful tomato crops!
Some rain is good for the green, but not too much, I hope that your flowers and veggies will enjoy it. Pretty new Honey Honey blocks, and I love how the variegated thread is showing on Broken Star Log Cabin. Thank you for sharing your garden and work in progress, and linking up.
