Piecing and Weeding

I didn’t get a photo of the weeding – it is not interesting but needed especially if you want to get some flowers planted.  In the narrow bed where the roses are outside of the fenced garden is a lot of empty space between the roses.  I need to get some bedding plants in there  perennials preferred so they will come back every year.  I got the bed weeded now I need to get the flowers.  I didn’t get a photo of the weeding it is not that interesting LOL

I did get some of the last Mercantile block made but not all of it – hopefully I can get that done today.  Flying Geese need to be made out of what is left there the orange squares and the white triangles.  I cleaned out my box that everything was stored in as I don’t need all the neutrals any longer that had been put aside for it – I had more than I needed so now I need to find space to put them back on the shelves.  Linking to Angela’s SoScrappy for the RSC group and  Frederique’s Quilting and Patchwork

The crochet afghan  is done – I haven’t been paying all that attention to the size and on Thursday night I realized as I was finishing up a color that it is enough – now to weave in the ends and put a border around it to make it a little more “firm” around the edges. I believe it was 40 x 50 or something like that – nice size for the couch or over me at night if I get chilled.  I have not touched my knitting in ages – I guess it was one yarn project or the other but not both at the same time.

Noriko’s Star from Thursday night  Not a lot done but I was paying more attention to a show I was watching as I wasn’t familiar to the plot line I had just started it – it is from about 15 years ago maybe – or less I didn’t check the date, it is on Netflix called “Falling Skies” staring Noah Wylie from ER & The Pitt.  Sci-Fi I don’t know if I will like it but I will watch it for a while and see how it develops.

It doesn’t seem like it should be the end of the week already much less May.  Yesterday’s post got put out late.  I had scheduled it wrong all of a sudden I realized that it wasn’t there and checked and I had scheduled it for May 5th- the 5 was supposed to be for May but I wasn’t thinking.  I will be glad to get the Mercantile Sampler off the wall and look at something else for awhile!! Nearly there.  I do hope to finish the last block tomorrow but the applique might not be done right away.  I will start to rearrange the blocks on the wall for how I will like the color to be distributed and then get busy sewing them through out the week.  I have not started to cut the border pieces out yet – that will take awhile as I plan for it to be scrappy and I need about 85 pieces I think it said and a bunch of white squares which I have a die for.  I will need to see what size rectangle I need and if a die will match – I probably won’t be that lucky.

Great use for lots of odds and ends of yarn for sure. Yes weeding is a necessary evil, just like raking leaves which I need to get busy with next week when the temps are a little better.

Your orange Mercantile block is going to be a pretty one! I enjoyed getting out the orange fabrics this week, too. 40 x 50 seems like a good size for a crocheted cover-up – I love all the color in that one. I have a little more weeding type work to do, too, before I can plant my flowers. Not looking forward to the weeding, but definitely looking forward to having some flowers!

I had to laugh at your post title! I did not realize your afghan was that big. How nice to be able to use leftover yarns and have it look so pretty. Although I am not a huge fan of orange, I like your Merc start. I hope I can find some decent scraps for this month’s blocks.
We ran errands yesterday and have the weekend free, and it looks to be a really nice one. Hope you get to sit outside and enjoy it!

Some activities just don’t photograph well, no matter what you try. Congrats on finishing up the afghan, it’s very colorful. You’ve got a good start on the last Mercantile block. Enjoy playing with the Mercantile blocks up on the wall. Final layouts can be fun, but they can also be frustrating. Hope your plan comes together quickly and painlessly.

Very pretty afghan, with all those lovely bright colors.

I like perennials best too, put them in once and watch them grow each year.
The afghan is pretty. Now the fun begins, rearranging the Mercantile blocks.

Nice afghan and very colorful. I like a border on mine too, as it seems to keep the edges from stretching. Will you put sashing or borders on your mercantile quilt?

Pretty crocheted afghan. I like the pattern and colors, great way using leftover yarn. Good start on the Merc Sampler block. I need to do weeding too, but not today, too much rain yesterday.

Orange is such a pretty, bright, and cheerful color! The last block will be beautiful too, and I can’t wait to see the border. Your crochet afghan looks so cozy, and it’s always a treat to see Noriko. Thank you for sharing and linking up!
