Mercantile Sampler is in the basket! well as of tomorrow that is – I finally finished the last two borders. It made it easier to do as Mike is now home. We actually had a busy day so I’m surprised I got done with as much as I did. The two rows that needed to be attached were already sewed together so that helped and I decided to make the corners a solid block instead of picket fence as due to errors in measurements someplace my borders did not fit exactly as they were to be.
We had a little rain in the afternoon and the deck was wet so I will take a photo sometime today outside if I can but here is one in the sewing room.
A little more stitching on Honey, Honey next photo I will remember to take where there is better lighting.
Log Cabin quilting from Tuesday night
This weather starts next week – doesn’t look like fun does it and some of you will be hotter than we will be in Arkansas. I wonder what the humidity will be like? I will need to get to the garden early.
I might have to start watering the garden again next week – the last 10 days? I have canned 12 pints of Marinara Sauce and had two half jars as extra – they go into the refrigerator and are used within days. Occasionally get put in the freezer and then thawed to use. These were done yesterday. I got the mixture in the crockpot before the house got busy and then canned in the late afternoon.
We had two home appointments lined up. First the visiting nurse from Home Health came out to do a assessment of what Mike needs. She checked the wound and made sure I had the correct dressings from the hospital and ointment to use until healed. Went over all the new medications to see if there were any questions. They will send out a nurse one morning a week for two more weeks to check progress and wound. Then a man from a medical supply company came to visit and set Mike up with an additional brace that he will need to use for 2 hours a day for 6 months that promotes bone generation with some kind of pulse signal. He said it is more comfortable than the other. I think until all of this he had no clue how long of a recovery this was going to be. PT starts today although he has been walking as told to do as long as he can which isn’t long but will be improving. Having a deck/porch comes in handy – he is doing one or two laps around it. Yes he doesn’t have shoes on – that is how he wants it right now – I try to not argue. You can see it was a very cloudy day. And then he still needs to get shoulder surgery scheduled!! We see our family doctor next week I hope we get information then. I was amazed I got done will all I did!! with all of those home appointments

Nice borders on the Mercantile sampler! This one will be fun to quilt. Sounds like lots of support has been set up for Mike as he recovers. Keep walking, Mike! Hopefully, the weather cooperates with his laps around the deck!
Take care !
The Mercantile quilt looks terrific! I can’t believe how much you got done either, what with Mike coming home and the home visits. You know, you can only do so much telling and then you have to let them figure it out for themselves. From your comment, it sounds as if Mike was expecting to be fully healed in a couple months……might be a long year ahead of you as he understands the full implications for him long term. I can imagine it was nice for Mike to be outside.
I love that Mercantile quilt! Good to see Mike up and about, everyday will bring improvement. We, in Michigan, are in the middle of that red hot target. Our sons and their families are arriving Sunday from California for two weeks, the air conditioner and sprinklers will get a work out.
Good for Mike for walking laps! I hope all goes smoothly with his PT and healing. He seems to have a pretty good attitude about it, hope that stays. 😉 You really got a lot done! Merc looks wonderful with that border – it is the icing on the cake. Yes I am dreading the next couple weeks, in fact probably the whole rest of the summer. It will be hard for me to water the garden it is so thick, but I may pull out a few plants. I picked a grand total of 2 green beans yesterday – lol! The plants are lush and pretty and full of blooms but not much so far. Grands are coming in the morning, so today will be a sew-fest!
I am glad your husband is back home. Now you can get back to some sort of a routine, even though it may be different than what you were previously accustomed to. As long as he continues to push himself to do as much walking as he can he will continue to improve. Slow but sure. Good job on getting the mercantile top completed!
I cannot imagine your joy at Mike walking on the porch ???? Congratulations to you both on his great progress and a significantly reduced stress level.
We’re mid 90s this week, dropping for a 3d storm and then back up to 98 late next week. BUT, it’s dry out here. Don’t know how ya’ll survive so many humid months out East.
Happy Thursday!
You did get a lot done, in spite of the people coming and going and figuring out Mike’s needs. Mercantile is beautiful with its borders on, and it’s good to see Honey, Honey out again, too. Your porch looks like the perfect place for Mike to walk with a big flat surface like that. I hope each day gets a little bit better for both of you!
The borders just add a lot more interest and a great stopping point for MS quilt, I love it. Glad things went well getting Mike home.
I like Mercantile. I wasn’t sure with the round blocks but all together it’s quite nice. Doesn’t matter how much you follow a patter, there is always some measurement off. Good for Mike walking. Bare feet– watch for splinters. Lol
The Mercantile Sampler looks great. I like plain squares in the corners on the border.
Mike will have a little more understanding now on your recovery time from back surgery. He will see it isn’t instant. I hope he stays as active as possible because that should help the healing process and keep his muscles strong. PT at home is great and I’m glad they offered it.
We are going to be in the very hot next week. We go from 70s this week to 90s next week. Our average high temperature right now is 83.
The Mercantile sampler turned out beautifully! Glad that Mike is home. Sounds like it will be a long road to full recovery. At least he’s able to do that from home. Of course we get the hot weather just in time for the July holiday.
Goodness, 6 months in a back brace, I do hope hubby does as he should with the brace. This accident has quite a long recovery phase indeed. He must be happier now he is home. Take time for yourself as well, a bit of peace and quiet, or some time out meeting up with your daughter now and again. You certainly did well getting that quilt top together, didnt seem to take too long at all.
You got so much done! Mercantile looks great with those borders. It’s funny that you mention the pulse gadget for bone regeneration. Because of an acupuncture treatment that I’m doing I have been reading about acupuncture in general. If I understand what I read correctly, energy pulses in the body are a Chinese medicine concept that Western medicine doesn’t really recognize, except in the case of healing bones! I know a lot of people who have been given this type of treatment so it must work.
You got a lot done, in between appointments. Glad Mark can be followed up at home so you don’t have to travel here and there. Mercantile turned out beautiful, Karen! I love the border and the plain squares in the corners. Looks like you are getting some very hot days. Raining cats and dogs here this a.m.. We need rain, it has been dry so far this year.
Congrats on the Mercantile top! It’s amazing what you got done with everything else going on. Nice to see Mike out and about. Every day will bring progress. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

The mercantile top is fabulous. Sometimes sneaking things in between all the appointments can make huge progress. Glad Mike is home, had visits, and a plan….recovery takes time…none of us enjoy that piece…but it is better than the alternative. Got very behind in blogs….catching up!
