I went grocery shopping yesterday and the heat wiped me out. I had planned on sitting at the machine and getting busy on Timeless but it didn’t work out that way. Where I grocery shop at it was 101 in the parking lot – all that pavement always seems to create higher temperatures but it wasn’t that much higher than it was at home surrounded mainly by trees and one road in front of the house. It was 97 at home. I was wiped out after getting groceries in the car and then getting them into the house even with Mike being able to start to carry some of them inside. I sat down after I got things put away, drank water, and proceeded to read my book which led to me falling asleep!
I eventually got in the sewing room and have my strips cut and now to sub cut today into squares. Seeing as it is squares it will be just as easy to do with the rotary cutter as it would with the dies – I know I have what I need for at least the purple. These strips will become Double Flying Geese units and form the next border. That will bring the center up to 36” I believe,
I have some pretty silk yarn that I want to make a scarf with for the cooler part of the year – I figure something small I will finish!! As this yarn is so fine – fingerling weight I can use all three colors at once putting them together. There is 440 yards each so that should be enough for a scarf that is not real wide. Does anyone recommend an easy patten for knit or crochet other than – knit, purl – or crochet in one of the stitches I know in a repeating pattern. I have the “umbrella” stand for winding yarn but always did it by hand. Seeing as I’ve had trouble with the bursitis in my bicep/shoulder I sent for a electric winder that I know will make it easier to wind into balls.
Close up of the skinny piece, I’ve read that two or three of the skeins of yarn go well together when holding them in your hand and make a nice weight.
Honey, Honey got a little more of the row put together while the news was on last evening.
And work on The Broken Star Log Cabin from Tuesday night – I forgot to spritz the blue lines out and removed all of them last night.

That’s hot – and I don’t think there’s anything hotter than a car in summer. Here in VT it was in the low 80s and humid yesterday, and I did the same thing in the afternoon – fall asleep. I shuffled fabric around the sewing room but didn’t do anything really. I still have one side of my Dear Jane’s binding to sew down. Will force myself to finish today!
I’m hoping for a break in the heat. Next week should be slightly cooler. That silk yarn surely is surely pretty! A scarf would be nice in the silk.
Heat can definitely be exhausting, especially when you are out in it. Sometimes a nap is just what we need! Those are pretty pieces for the next Timeless border. I like the yarn, too – hope you find a pattern that will work for you!
Yes the heat can do mysterious things and make us tired. The last two days we were cooler and I still didn’t have a lot of energy. I hope today is better for both of us:)
The heat “ain’t” no joke. I mowed on my new mower yesterday evening around 6-7 pm. It was hot!! Those new fabrics are gorgeous. Happy you got a good rest after all the hot chores.
My SIL said it was 105° at her house in Okmulgee OK and there was rain headed their way. She texted later that the rain missed them and it was still hot. We had 101° here.
It has been a rough couple days here with Hubs leg pain. We are waiting for the hospital to call to schedule an MRI. I’ve honestly never seen him in this much pain. I keep wondering if it is extended shingles pain, which is possible but rare. At any rate, none of the medications seem to be helping. I don’t know about you, but I find it so hard to concentrate on sewing or doing anything in my room when Hubs doesn’t feel well!
I bet the silk yarn will feel good as you are knitting or crocheting. I think multiple strands would be easier to knit than crochet.
We only get close to 90 but with tropical humidity it feels like 105. A couple overcast days here have given my porch flowers a little break from the instense sunshine.
Heat zaps you so fast! glad you could rest up. The strips for your double flying geese are really pretty fabrics.
I always think that grocery shopping is not really a fun activity and having to do it in such high temperatures would have been awful for you. No wonder you sat down and fell asleep when you got home! The yarn for your new scarf project looks nice.
Heat always wipes me out too. I am glad you didn’t get a headache afterwards. Taking rest after coming back was a great idea. The silk yarn would make for a lovely scarf. Do you know what size needle you will be using?

It has been so hot, I avoid going out during the middle of the day. A nap is completely understandable, the heat does take a toll. Even with the recovery time, you still got a fair amount done on the sewing front.
A scarf will be a nice yarny project for summer. Big blankets are just not good summer projects!
