A Little More on the Hexies

The row from the other day got pressed and as I was adding it to the wall I noticed I somehow got some of the line up of color wrong so I had to unpick some and put them back together and then I got another row put together as well and pressed – 4 out of 12 rows done.  I did notice on the last row I added I have one of the mustard color right under a different one so I might change that around – but it is a different pattern on the fabric so I might not!

I just can’t get over the size of this Hosta this year – is it all the rain we have had for the past six months or what – we have been very rainy since September of last year.  I don’t recall this plant ever being this large – I have more and I think they are all bigger than normal although this is the biggest.  I know a lot of you say deer, or slugs – get your hosta’s but nothing ever gets mine so I will count myself lucky.

The apple tree is still covered with apples and I am keeping my fingers crossed they make it until the end of summer – this is just a small portion of the small tree.

I planted two of these plants with the little blue flowers on them several years ago but this year only this one came back – last year the other one was very tiny, I wondered if it would come back  – it didn’t.  I don’t remember the name of it.

Heavy rain and lots of it is expected today – Hope the really bad storms stay away, I have a dentist appointment this afternoon and I have a feeling the rain will start just as I leave the house!

Your hosta is beautiful. Ours are just barely beginning to peek out of the ground. We are getting rain today too, and that will help the plants get going here, hopefully. I wouldn’t change that hexie. I think there’s enough difference between the two.

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 7:17

yes the more I look at the hexie I see differences – I really do not want to have to change anything! The plants get big so fast!

Your Good Fortune quilt looks great! I love how much the hand quilting adds to it. Your hosta looks wonderful too.

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 12:07

thanks! I think hand quilting does add to quilts doesn’t it

Your garden is lovely and your projects are coming along nicely! I was thinking of you at my bee meeting on Monday, as one of the other ladies was doing EPP with little hexies in similar colors to yours. Just beautiful. I hope your dentist appointment goes like this: “Why, Karen — what EXCELLENT HOME CARE you have been doing! There is nothing for us to do here but congratulate you!! (Beckoning to other patients) “If y’all were as good with your brushing and flossing at home like KAREN, I wouldn’t have to be giving you the tough love of root canals…” 🙂

🙂 just a check up and cleaning – haven’t had any work done going on two years now so keep your fingers crossed – leaving soon.

I can’t believe you have apples already! Our tree hadn’t even bloomed yet when we left home on Sunday. Maybe there will be blooms when we get home Friday. That hosta is beautiful – it must be loving your rainy weather! The hexies are coming together nicely, too!

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 12:09

I think we had blossoms at the beginning of April – normal for her. hope you have some on yours soon! have a good trip home.

Your host a is so big and pretty, mine is bigger because of all the rain too I think. Is that a pineapple mint growing under and one next to it, with the variegated leaves? The apples are really bigger since the lasr time you showed them, apple pie coming up soon, lol! Great progress on all the hexies and your quilting. We’re having a thunder storm now with rain and it rained during the night too, probably heading your way next. Have a good dentist visit and be safe if it’s raining.

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 12:11

next to the hosta plant is a type of vinca – I don’t remember the name – it gets purple flowers on it in early spring and I think there may be a few blossoms still. I do have pineapple sage growing in the garden though – 3 plants that came up from last year. The apples are growing and so far no worm holes – I hope the powder I put on it three times works! Already rained once this morning and more off and on through Sunday – weather says we could get 4 inches total – more than we need for sure.

Wow this is coming together so quickly! Love your hostas. If I had more shade they’d be my go to plant. Thanks for joining up to Wednesday Wait Loss.

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 12:13

yes it is coming along really well – been working on it for 2 months now

  • Michelle May 8, 2019 @ 14:32

That is a gorgeous hosta! You are really getting pounded with the rain. I hope you get a break in the rain for your dentist appointment. Great progress on the hexies and Good Fortune.

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 15:22

so far we are not getting the inches of rain today that the weatherman said we would have – maybe it will all be tonight?

  • Belarmina Antuña May 8, 2019 @ 17:43

    Karen que bonito jardín.
Tus pequeñas flores puede ser Myosotis (Nomeolvides)
Mis manzanos este año tiene muy pocas flores.
    Tus hexagonos se ve bien
    saludos

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 18:21

I hope there is still time for your apple tree to blossom – I hope mine will stay on the tree and turn ripe.

  • kaholly May 8, 2019 @ 18:14

Your quilts and your plants are coming right along! I’m loving those hexies!

    • Karen May 8, 2019 @ 18:21

thanks Karen – everything is coming along for sure

  • Carla May 8, 2019 @ 19:29

Your hosta is beautiful and I’m sure the rain has helped. My perennials look so good right now with the cooler wet spring. Hope it means we will get some rain during the summer as we didn’t get much last summer. Your moving right along on those hexies.

    • Karen May 9, 2019 @ 1:32

we have been getting rain here since September it seems too much it seems. I’m sure that is why everything is growing well.

  • Afton Warrick May 9, 2019 @ 17:31

I can’t tell what the pattern is with the hexes, so I don’t see any errors. That sure is a bunch of them. What a big hosta! The hand quilting on Good Fortune is just scrumptious.

    • Karen May 9, 2019 @ 19:00

it wasn’t an actual mistake in the layout of the hexies it was just two colors one in the row above the same color. The hexies are from left over flannel from a quilt made awhile back, I cut hexies out and sew in clusters of three and then putting together in rows for a table covering

  • Susan May 14, 2019 @ 14:06

Great job on the hexies, and the quilting. I’m hoping that my apples stay on the tree too – going to look into netting.
