Happy Daze

I pressed all my templates (freezer paper) down for the purple Happy Daze circle and then completely forgot to take photos of it – but I do have some of it laid out while I was working on it – there is a lot of cutting to do for one circle and I never did get much of the sewing done on it yesterday – but a little done better than nothing.  I always like to have one finished block out for inspiration while I am doing another.  These curves are a little tedious – just curved enough that you have to watch it.  I like to put a pin in each end to have it in the right spot and then use the tweezers to help it along while I stitch.

These circles will all be put onto a Moda Marble black – it isn’t “black black” but almost if you know what I mean- it is very mottled black with some almost a grayish/green.  It is hard to describe the color – the photo doesn’t quite show it right – I really need to cut the squares out and get the 3 that I will have stitched before I need to do them all at once.  I don’t have the pattern for this quilt.  I am using swirly circles from another pattern that I have and the “turkey tails” are from the Dresden Plate accuquilt die.  I will figure out the rest when I get to each section by following the photo that I have – some of it might end up being a little different.

This is a large Honeysuckle bush that comes back year after year.  Some years it stays green all winter other years like this year it all turned brown and I wondered if it had died and all of a sudden a couple weeks ago the green leaf’s came back.  The flowers on the bush are different than Honeysuckle vine whose perfume can be almost overwhelming to some.   Personally I like it – Mike doesn’t.  This bush has tiny flowers and not a lot of fragrance.

The flowers are just starting right now to the middle left there is one you can barely see – this bush – actually bushes there are more than one but hard to tell where one starts and another starts.  I didn’t plant these they just started to grow one year I don’t know when – it is one of those things that all of a sudden you notice them as they aren’t real close to the house – it would make for a nice hedge.

You’ve gotten a good start on your purple block. I’ve used the Moda black in the past, it’s hard to describe. Hope you get in a bit of stitching and yard work today. The weather is supposed to be pretty nice for the next few days.

I can see where cutting pieces out for the Happy Daze quilt would take quite some time, and then sewing them all together would, too. But it is probably worth it to take your time and get the pieces together precisely. This one is going to be pretty! That Honeysuckle bush looks really happy – hope it gets lots of blooms for you!

Your purple block is going to be awesome and your bush is so green! I love spring when all starts to grow again. 🙂

Oooh your new block is going to be lovely, Karen! I really like Moda Marbled Black you are using with it, and yes, it’s kind of like grunge – hard to describe – but beautiful! I’m quite sure if I was stitching these blocks together, I would have MORE time than I care to spend with Jackie the Ripper! LOL I love honeysuckle vines! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bush. As kids, we used to pinch off the blossoms and pull the stamen and enjoy that little drop of nectar! We also had fun using maypops as “eggs” in our play house! LOL They have pretty purple flowers and the plant is actually named passion flower. Ahhh, good memories!

I really love those circular blocks. So worth the extra work involved.

There are a couple of that type of Honeysuckle bushes at the edge of my neighbor’s yard where it touches my yard. They are not fragrant and they are considered an invasive species in IL. With the amount of land you have they shouldn’t be a problem but on our small city lots we aren’t as happy to see them. I have never seen the fragrant Honeysuckle vines or bushes and hope I might some day.

Those look like tricky pieces to cut. Curves tend to be. The end result is such a stunning block. I love the smell of Honeysuckle. Hope you have a good week.

I will always have fond memories of a honeysuckle vine, the smelly one. It grew along the rail of my mother and her husband’s porch. They sold that house last fall as both of them can no longer live there. So hearing your story about how something grew when you least suspect it. Keep spinning those lovely blocks!

I really like that mottled black, good choice. Your bush looks really healthy! I have always loved honeysuckle, especially with roses. When I was a kid we would pull off blooms and suck on the little tiny drop of nectar. Were we starving that we had to do that or what? 😀

Interesting! I didn’t know there were both honeysuckle bushes and vines. I’m with you, I like the smell of honeysuckle.

Your swirley circles are beautiful – I imagine you would need a great deal of patience to get them sitting right. The wee flowers in the centres of them will lift them to the next level!

That is going to be a beautiful block!
I’ve only heard of a honeysuckle vine, not a bush. I bet it’s not near as invasive as the vine then?
