More Quilting

More quilting on The Carpenter’s Wheel – It moved pretty smoothly Sunday evening but the pink fabric is very hard to quilt through.  It is not a batik.  I don’t remember what brand it was I got it such a long time ago it came in a fat quarter bundle and I used most of it for a quilt made about 20 years ago and given to a niece.  I had some in yellows, greens, blues and orange and the pink.  If I remember right it came from Hancock’s of Paducah.  I remember I ordered it on line and then was amazed at how thick the weave was.

A little work on Noriko’s Star – I will add the end pieces to the rows when these are all done.  The board just isn’t wide enough and I jostled moving things out of place and said forget about it to get it back in order and would add them later.

I don’t know how I measured this crochet piece originally to make a shawl LOL it will not be wide enough and wonder if it is too wide for a cowl.  I will not be keep it when done it is too thick and heavy for me for our winters here.  I will see how it turns out in the end and then donate it.

Looked out at the right time while making a small evening meal and saw the baby deer and mom were back – I feel sure they are living in the woods behind the house.

Still admiring your hand quilting. A skill I’ve never been able to master. What a shame about your crochet piece. Such pretty yarn too.

    Dear Karen,

The deer in your garden are beautiful. All your projects are gorgeous and Noriko Star is just growing. Hopefully you are all feeling a lot better. It is great to get days where we can sit outside and relax without the excessive heat and humidity. Have a wonderful day.

The deer are happy with you. What a blessing! Sorry about the shawl. It’s so pretty. Nice quilting and hexagons. Slow and steady wins the race!

Hope you are feeling some better today. We had two doe’s and two Bambi’s yesterday at the same time.

I’ve noticed that when hand-piecing – some fabrics are a lot harder to put your needle through! Batiks are one, but I’ve come across others, too. Love your photo of the mama and baby! You’ve seen them quite a bit this year. Hope you’re feeling better today!

You caught a great photo of Mom and baby. How are you feeling? That is weird about the pink fabric. I think I have that same yarn in my closet. It’s nice to see how pretty it works up.
I finally got my sewing room all moved around. We moved my design board to the opposite wall – traded spaces with my fabric cabinet. Now I feel like I can get going again – fingers crossed!

Nice to see the deer again! On your crochet project, maybe a baby afghan? I’ve made some and donated them to Project Linus.

We’ve been seeing more deer than usual, but so far the babies are not making an appearance. We’re enjoying a rainy morning here.

So nice to see the mom and her baby. How are you feeling? Your hand quilting is beautiful. I didn’t realize that some fabrics are harder to hand quilt through than other.

Pretty deer, but do they do much damage to your garden?

Is the Problematic Pink a batik or similar tight weave? I remember (from the ONE AND ONLY quilt that I hand quilted, ?) that it was really hard to get my quilting needle through the batiks as well as the hand marbled fabrics that had a similar stiff/dense weave structure. Your quilting is so beautiful. Cautionary Crochet Tales (and Cautionary Knitting Tales along the same lines) have prevented me from straying from fabric to the Yarn Side. It must be so disappointing to put in a lot of time and then realize the size is coming out all wrong. My mom tried to knit a sweater for my dad when I was young and I remember her having to unravel and start over again and again because she couldn’t get it to come out to the right size. I don’t know if she ever did finish it. Can you make another piece of crochet just like the first one and stitch the two pieces together with yarn or something? Asks the girl who has no idea what she’s talking about so feel free to eye-roll if warranted. 😉

You must be getting close to being done with the Carpenter’s Wheel. When I came home yesterday evening I saw 2 fawns in our yard with 2 does and a 4 point buck. We used to have a herd of 11 but since coyotes moved into the area the population is smaller and I’m happy about that!

It’s always fun to see wild life in the yard, as long as they aren’t after your garden. Sounds like your energy level is picking up a bit.
