Yesterday was another day not at the sewing machine. It was time to figure out where to put the house plants and set up plant lights that I decided to get this year. I did get some more work done on the hexies though so will show that first – I planned on stitching that row last night when I got done quilting. Linking to Quilting, Patchwork & Applique
The Rose Garden is moving along, I am able to it at the frame now for a good 45-60 minutes again without severe pain so more is getting done.
The rest of the day was carrying plants inside and figuring out where to put them and take plenty of breaks which were spent reading an entertaining book called Ottilie Divine’s War (The Diplomatic who Vanished) this is by Andrea Hicks I have never read one of her books and I find it a good read it takes place in England in 1939 at the beginning of the war but doesn’t really center on the war but of a female journalist I believe in her late 20’s but not sure living on her own (she does come from money but doesn’t use her title). I have read numerous books that have Sherlock Holmes in them but this is the first time that I recall him living in the 1930’s but that is literary license I presume – he is her downstairs neighbor. There is supposed to be more than this one book so I plan on looking for the next – I believe I got it on Unlimited. In this book for her job as a journalist instead of doing women’s articles she is investigating the disappearance of a friend from school whose husband is missing.
I don’t usually have any plants in this corner as it gets no light but with the plant lights now I can. The stitching on the wall is one Melanie did quite some time ago.
The plant on the windowsill I’m not sure will have enough light it seems last year I noticed that these in the windows in the living room might not get enough, I will wait and see before I get any more lights though. The big bushy one in the blue pot is the Brazilian Jasmine and it might be too close to the heat vent right below so it might need to be moved – the Xmas Cactus should be fine though.
There are five Xmas Cactus here (all mine are Thanksgiving cactus if you are technical about it) and only one doesn’t have any buds forming. I might have to move a couple so it is not crowded – we will see.
one more group of plants on this windowsill – might move the spider plant but not sure and I might exchange that plant stand to a shorter one that I have on the porch I didn’t realize it would bring the plant so high.
Before I forget here is a salamander – we don’t see them often and each time I have is in the fall when they are sluggish and getting ready for winter – Mike had moved a log and it was under it so he moved it so I could get a photo and then we put in the flower bed right next to where it had been at so it could get a new hole to hide in. This one is the smallest I have ever seen the biggest had orange markings where the gray is on this one. The little thing didn’t move until after Mike put it next to the plant.

When I think of what kind of surgery you had, I think it is amazing what all you are doing now! Moving plants, sitting longer at your stitching, gardening – your doctors must be quite pleased. 🙂 Your plants look so lush, I bet they do well this winter with the extra light. I love that window with the books underneath. The little salamander is so cute! LOVE your pumpkins on your pretty runners.
It is 71° here and the wind is gusting, so I think the cold front is starting to move. We have a 90% chance of rain, but I’m guessing we will be in the 10% that doesn’t get any – lol!
You got a lot done with your plants, I don’t know how you keep up with that many in the house! You have a real green thumb for sure;)
Some plants only need low light so they should do okay inside. My mother had a green thumb and could grow anything. She had several plants that were never near windows and they did great. That high plant stand would give you space for a small Christmas cactus under it, but I’m not sure any of your cacti are that small any more.
Gentle stretching and twisting while hand quilting is probably beneficial to your back healing.
I am only bringing my oxalis inside. It’s a perfect plant because I can cut it to the ground the end of January and put it in the dark basement until we get back home in April. Then I water it and by the end of April it is full of leaves and blooms. I can’t believe how well you are doing, moving heavy plants, sewing on the machine and quilting. You are a trooper!
Your plants are so green and healthy – they look great in the spots where you put them. I bet those plant lights will help, too. The plants in your deep windowsillare so pretty therr – looks like it was built for that purpose. That is definitely a tiny salamander! We used to see them here, but haven’t for many years now. So glad you’ve been able to extend your hand quilting time at the frame!
So that’s what a salamander looks like. If we have them here, I’ve never seen one. Are you putting your plan lights on timers?
Ten, you’re down to ten hexes in a row! Getting so close. I like your plant lights as they aren’t massive.
It’s cool that you can quilt for over an hour now! That’s great progress. Those plant lights look like they will work out very well.
Your indoor plants looks very nice and healthy. I love indoor plants, but they don’t seem to thrive inside here. We have a small palm in the garden (grown from a seed) that has to be removed where it is. I may try to grow it inside. The plant you have on the stand in the window (last plant photo), we had to remove a lot of them in the garden. They grow like crazy here and take up a lot of space. That’s a cute salamander! Glad you are able to do more after the surgery. Be careful, don’t overdo!
The plant lights seem very bright and useful. My Thanksgiving/Easter cactus doesn’t have buds yet but our back porch shields plants a little. I have one in a north facing window that isn’t budding yet either. I need to bring a few more things indoors for the winter today also. First there’s grocery shopping and cookie baking to do. I need to bring something for a pot luck supper tomorrow and want something for Pat’s movers (all family) to snack on. Yes, tomorrow is going to be a big day for us here!
So glad to hear that your recovery is going well and you can sit and stitch for longer. I need to remind My Guy to get his plants in this week and I need to have the furnaces checked before we need to use them. There’s always so much to do when the seasons change.
I love the table runner with those pretty pumpkins on it, as well as the coffee table runner. So many pretty quilted items around your home. I am not a plant person. Your preparations for keeping the plants happy year round are not something I am willing to work on. The plants in my home either thrive mostly on their own or they are done. I have two Christmas cactii that haven’t bloomed in several years. I am finally getting them to look a little bit healthier with some grudging extra care.
Your last corner of hexies is growing beautifully. I’m so glad that you can quilt for almost an hour without pain, it’s great progress. Hard job for moving all your plants inside and selecting the better spot for each. I had a snake plant at work and completely forgot about it. It stayed in a dark room for several months, with very little water and almost no light. It survived very well! Cute little salamander! Thank you for sharing and linking up.
