A Slow Sunday Stitching

yes it will be a slow Sunday indeed as we have another day hitting around 93 – I might get out early again with Melanie for a walk and then it will be in the house for me again.  I spent very little time outside other than a walk yesterday morning at the trails before it hit 90 – it was instead still a balmy almost 90 degrees when we got done with our 1.5 mile walk at 10:30? – so glad I had that thermal mug of ice cold peach green tea with me!!  I did enjoy about 30 minutes on the porch last night after the temperature started to go down – sometimes in the summer my quilting in the evening slows down so I can go sit outside for a bit as the evening settles in and get cooler (84 instead of 90!)

We have a tropical storm heading inland by Monday night the news says – so far it looks like a couple inches of rain for us up here in Arkansas – hope it isn’t more but by time it gets here the plants will need the rain for sure.

A little stitching got done on the hexies while I was listening to a book on audio

One more started but it didn’t get flattened out well – I put it in it’s box with the others and need to thread baste some neutrals to go around it today- they flatten out in the box with the all the others pretty well and I never have to press them when I am done.  For Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy — Life in Pieces with Kate — Quilting is More Fun than Housework  with Cynthia — and from France we have Quilting Patchwork Applique with Frederique —

So far 14 – I moved this one above to the middle so the like colors wouldn’t be too close – as I repeat colors I will be moving this one and that one around to get the layout good.

The Christmas quilt from Saturday night

The first tomato about ripe – I will pick it on Monday before the storm hits – I think these were called Early Girls – I lost the tag – all of them are rather small so I guess they will be small tomatoes!

I was surprised to see some of the Butterfly Weed yellow! is it the heat? I’m not sure – never saw them yellow  – just the orange

IMG_8258

the heat has made the Crinum Lily’s totally limp – they are like this a lot in the summer but nice and full in the morning and evening – the heat just destroys the flowers at times doesn’t it.

The sales continue – seems like a lot of us need batting from what  all you have told me – more than I have ordered – thanks for going in through my links – it cost you nothing extra but gives me a little commission. Thanks

Connecting Threads is having a sale on batting!  I already got my order in – I mentioned a couple days ago that I was running low – I have one king size batt for the next quilt on the frame and then bits and pieces.  I ordered one for the Signature Quilt and a king size for whatever comes after that.  I didn’t order any bamboo batting and actually I’m not sure if they had any – I got a Tuscany cotton/wool blend and one that is 100% cotton of the Tuscany.

The Green Fairy is having a Pre-Order Sale on the new fabric bundles coming in – I ordered a batik bundle that will be here in September (for my birthday) – plenty to look at and they always have other sales going on as well.

Hi Karen, Even up here in the mountains the sun is due to bring us up into the 90’s… we may get a bit of rain from that tropical storm hitting … we hope anyway. I hope there isn’t much damage from this early seasonal storm… sometimes they pack a punch!
I love your hexi progress and your work on your quilt as you have time … I would take a bit of cool evening breeze over more quilting time too … keeping the air on in the house keeps me cold… then I go out to warm up and get over hot and drink and drink water to cool… yikes!
I love your flowers you shared .. even the sad looking ones knowing they wake up morning and night .. wonder if your butterfly plant is making it’s own changes to be partly yellow now?? My friend Jannessa has a butterfly bush that is yellow , mine as I shared is dark purple and yours is orange and now yellow… will see if yours changes to orange or stays yellow I guess 🙂
Have a blessed weekend and I hope the yard animals don’t steal that juicy looking tomato before you get it monday! Kathi

I have grown Early Girls a lot but for us they don’t bear fruit until August at the earliest. They’re nice in salads. This year I got some orange cherry tomatoes (they’re in a pot) and something called “Mr. Stripey,” which is yellow with red. I’m curious to see how it tastes. Our recent humid, hot weather has made both plants double in size.

Enjoy your slow stitching today. You must stitch really fast, it takes me hours to make much progress when I work on hexies (I have a project in the works, but haven’t touched it in ages). The pineapple blocks are coming along beautifully. Lots of progress on many projects, stay cool and stitch on!

Your quilts are lovely. I just love traditional patterns and colors for Christmas quilts. Your garden looks great too. Ours is a bit whimpy here so far. We’re flirting with 90s here in east TN also. Hopefully the tropical storm will just bring some much needed rain for the garden – and not much more! Have a great week!

Stay cool! Although it looks as if you’re well adapted to the high temperatures, or rather your house is. Good luck with all your projects. EPP is well suited to high temperatures and low energy levels, I find.

It’s good to get outside when the weather permits. Morning walks are best on hot, muggy days. Perhaps you think you’ve slowed down, yet I still can’t hold a candle to your stitching progress. It’ll be awhile before my first early girl.

We had a big storm yesterday that cooled us way down from the 100 on Friday – so welcome! Your warm, humid weather sure makes things grow, though – a red tomato already! The pineapple blocks are looking great and the hexie project, too. Love the red/pink combination! Enjoy your Sunday, Karen!

We had rain last night, but the weather here has been just lovely. Hope your heat breaks soon so you can enjoy being outdoors again! All of your quilt projects are looking so nice!

I think I have big beefstake tomato’s and I just picked a couple on Friday before we got the inches and inches of rain yesterday and today. Hope the storm is nicer to you than us – way too much rain and I hear tornados in other parts of Florida. Glad you got your walk in, it is difficult when the temps are so high. Those hexagons are coming along nicely.

Ok… The difference between your part of the country in the garden is my tomato plants are about 6 inchs tall…here in central Oregon and our high today will be about 65

  • chrisknits Jun 7, 2020 @ 9:12

Everything looks lovely, especially those flowers!

  • Frédérique Jun 7, 2020 @ 9:19

I hope the strom will not hit you. Beautiful work in progress, your hexies are charming, and I love your pineapple blocks. The one with little prints in its blue looks like it’s shinning and reflect light!
Thank you for sharing with Patchwork & Quilts link party!

Wonderful projects, and you have a lovely garden.

Butterfly Weed can be different colors.

  • exuberantcolor Jun 7, 2020 @ 9:56

I like the Early Girl tomatoes because they are smaller and I can have the whole tomato in my salad. The 4th of July variety are smaller too, like the On the Vine that you see at the stores with 5 to a stem. If you have more than one person eating the tomato at a meal I can see having the larger ones like Beefsteak.

    Hi,
Love the hexies..so pretty…your garden is beautiful…we have been having high 80’s with 70% or higher humidity…which makes it miserable to be outside. Have a great day!

  • Karrin Hurd Jun 7, 2020 @ 11:14

Beautiful hexies and quilting. Love seeing your beautiful garden, and wish I had a tomato plant. Love fresh tomatoes. It was 103 three days last week, yesterday we were down to 80, today high is 73, but we are expected to go back up tomorrow!

  • Sarah Jun 7, 2020 @ 12:49

Goodness it has been hot! I’m surprised you get anything done. Your flowers are lovely.

  • Michelle Churchman Jun 7, 2020 @ 13:44

I’m glad you got some outdoor time. We are having a short run in the 80’s (3 days). A welcome relief after 108 for a couple of days before. We plan to hit the lake tomorrow. Your pineapple quilt is coming together pretty fast!

  • Cynthia Brunz Jun 7, 2020 @ 14:23

Really loving your pineapple blocks. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!

  • Norma Jun 7, 2020 @ 14:33

So far we have gotten 5″ of rain from the storm and it is still coming down. This should definitely help with any wild fires we may have later in the summer. My butterfly bush is yellow. I wanted orange but was pleasantly surprised when it bloomed in all it’s yellow glory. 😉 I don’t seem to have much success with large tomatoes so this year I only planted cherry tomatoes and have been surprised with all 6 of my plants covered with fruit.

  • Dawn Cooper Jun 7, 2020 @ 22:27

Have you used the Tuscany 80/20 cotton wool blend before? I have a crib size batt, but have not yet used it for hand quilting. It feels lovely & I expect it to be good for needling.
