Arkansas Traveler

When I get done with the row I am currently working on I will measure everything and estimate the size  the quilt currently is and what I want it to be – it is coming along but I think I need about 11 or so more blocks still. With the way some of it is behind the quilting frame and the desk one needs to look this way and that and make sure things are straight and in the proper rows!  I have trouble with placement on the wall when doing a quilt on point – none of it ever seems to be straight.  I added two gray blocks yesterday and have one more laid out before I chose some bright colors to finish this quilt off with.

Been working on gray a bit the last couple days – this gray section of Butterflies in Flight was finished on Friday night

And this section also – and that is where I picked up on last night.  I’ll continue working on this and the hexies for Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy.

The tallest of the two amaryllis is just about ready to open – sure has been slow it seems.  I can see a little red in there but this was to be all red – it might be one of those that is red and white

IMG_9243

the other one the outside of the bud looks kind of red to me so maybe that is an indication that this one will be red as the label had said?  As you can see it is very hard to get a photo in this area because of the reflections – shut the lights off and it is too dark.

The Hyacinths are all getting close to budding also – it  will be spring looking here in the house in the middle of January with the flowers blooming.

I love having flowers growing inside in winter. Your amaryllis and hyacinths are so nice! My Christmas cactus is finished blooming and now I’ll wait for the Easter one to get going (if it feels up to it!). Wish I’d bought bulbs for forcing this fall, but maybe next year.

You have a lovely selection of grey fabrics. Your projects are looking so good! Enjoy your slow Sunday stitching. Happy new year.

Pretty gray Arkansas traveler blocks, Karen.
Your amaryllis and hyacinths will bring happy colors to your home during boring winter days.
    Happy stitching/quilting.

The easiest way to figure size on point is to multiply the finished size of the block by 1.5. I do love that block!

I see your point of having to look at your AT carefully with it being on point. That will be so fun and uplifting to have pretty blooms in your house over the winter.

Arkansas traveller is growing! Love the sheep fabric in your butterflies quilt. That quilt will be done soon!

  • Linda Jan 8, 2023 @ 7:33

Those may be the prettiest gray blocks I’ve ever seen. That amaryllis better be spectacular after all this buildup!

Lots of pretty work going on! I’ve never made a quilt with blocks set on point. Seems confusing to me, but I love the look! Your amaryllis “trees” are putting on quite a show! ?

Arkansas Traveler is becoming a real beauty! You have some really fun gray fabrics. I love the brick fabric in particular.

Those big blocks on point take up a lot of space on the wall! I would struggle to decide where they should all go. It’s going to be a beautiful quilt! Your 36 patch blocks in the butterflies quilt are like an I Spy for quilters – I spy some holiday prints – trees, snowmen, reindeer. Have fun watching those amaryllis reveal themselves!

What fun flowers you will have blooming! My amaryllis didn’t bloom this year.
But then again I’m a terrible gardener.
    Enjoy your hand stitching today!

The layouts for on point settings always seem awkward as they are coming together, it looks great though! Having flowers blooming during winter is so festive. Enjoy the blooms when they appear!

Pretty grey’s in your blocks. Those AT blocks on the wall are stunning.

Arkansas Traveler is looking lovely! My amaryllis from last year just has leaves, the bulb I bought in December already has a flower bud but mine are no where near as tall as yours!

    Dear Karen,
It is looking great over on your design wall. Thank you for all the inspiration on a daily basis. I look forward to reading your blog daily. Have a wonderful day.

When my Amaryllis was getting ready to bloom I thought it was going to be red and white but once the flower opened it was all red. I’m still waiting for a bud to appear from a bulb from 2 years ago. It didn’t bloom last year and this is its last chance.

So much beauty in your pretties. Love those grey fabrics in the two blocks. How exciting….there is a whisper of spring in your home.

  • CathieJ Jan 8, 2023 @ 18:47

I like the addition of grey to Arkansas Traveler. It has been a while since I had an amaryllis. I look forward to seeing yours in bloom.

I know what you mean about blocks on point being hard to layout. I was using a bed on one of mine and it just wasn’t all that helpful. They are now sitting in the quilt closet for when I next feel motivated….

I’ve never had winter blooms, don’t know why. It just never occurred to me. I have hyacinths outside my kitchen and I watch for them every year. I’m afraid everything is so confused this year because of the weather nothing may bloom.

  • Kate Jan 9, 2023 @ 10:37

Arkansas Traveler is shaping up beautifully! I’ve given up on getting my blocks straight on the design wall, I’m just happy if they stick these days!
