It was such a nice day yesterday I’m surprised I got two blocks done as I was outside a bit too and we went out for supper and drove around looking at Xmas lights.
I had been tossing all the strips for the log cabin blocks on the quilting frame but I knew this was not going to work long term as I have to keep moving them to quilt of course.
Right now I have them in two small baskets but the baskets are too small so I will be looking for something that will work out better over the next couple days – the green box has strips to go through that need to be cut to size still
the table gets quite messy while working – and yes I put one block out on an easel to keep reminding me of placement so no more ripping and I got done with two blocks today.
Five on the wall. The lower block on the left I’m not sure about the last neutral strip – looks too dark now when it is on the wall but I will make a couple extra blocks and that way I can change out if I still find it too noticeable later one. I used the same color strip on the first row last block on the right but being closer to the middle it doesn’t look as dark and actually just noticed it is in the lower block on the right also but closer to the inside and it is not noticeable there either.

Putting your block on an easel is a great idea – is it on a piece of batting? I love those fabrics you’re using in the log cabins! They look so good all together like that. Nice King Arthur book! Are there a lot of photos in it? I am still collecting cookbooks, and the last one I bought ended up having only a few photos. I like eye candy – lol!
The block on the easel looks like pretty art to me! It’s a good idea to keep yourself on track.
It’s easy to muddle something up on these blocks. Great idea to have a reference block to keep you on the right track.
We had drizzly, dark day yesterday, plus an out of town guest. So, it was a good day to stay in, socialize and watch football. You are a very organized quilter!
You definitely do have a lot of strips to use in these blocks! They’re looking good on the wall together, too. The strips that stand out when you’re making the block blend in more when there are multiple blocks. I wouldn’t change them! Your evening out sounds like fun!

Your strips look beautiful. I love the idea of an easel to keep a finished block right in front of you. Your design wall looks pretty lovely, I don’t see anything annoying.
If you have one of those free standing wooden clothes drying racks that works great for hanging strips on!
If the strip you add after the dark one was a little darker, it might make a better blend. However when all of the blocks are put together into a quilt top, you won’t be as worried about some strips standing out. Maybe you will find some medium/dark fabrics in that box of pieces to trim.
When I first looked at your block arrangement, i did not notice the “darker” neutral strip. I think the reason you see it so much is because it is next to a much “whiter” strip. As you said, if it bothers you, you can change it easily. I like how you are quilting Scrappy Crossroads. I recently made not of that bread cookbook. I am thinking of buying it, but I am not sure that I will make bread all that often to justify it. Have a great week!
What a good idea to put the block where you can see it. That’s a wonderful bread book, both My Guy and Grad Girl have copies and they use it all the time.
